I just noticed that the description of polymorph others (both in LL and AEC) specifies a duration of "see below", but the description of the spell gives no mention of how long it lasts. It's supposed to be permanent, I presume, as in AD&D.

The illusionist spell implant emotion has a duration of "See below", but the text doesn't specify a duration (except implicitly for the emotions which duplicate the effects of other spells).

I would assume the duration of "Polymorph Other" would be similar to the last sentence of "Polymorph Self", but otherwise permanent.

LL wrote:The spell dispel magic negates the effects of this spell, and if the [creature] dies while in a different form he will revert to his natural form in death.

This is how it works in B/X too, it seems the above sentence is just missing from the "Polymorph Other" description in LL.

Page 77 of the AEC has the duration for the Spell Stinking Cloud as : Permanent. Page 72 of the 1st ed. Player's Handbook has the duration for that spell as: 1 round per level.

Discrepancies in name-level Paladin and Ranger charts?

Hi, all.

Looking at the Paladin and Ranger experience charts, it looks like something's a bit off.

In AD&D, all characters generally require much more XP post-name level to advance. For example, in B/X the fighter requires 120,000 XP per level, whereas in AD&D, he requires 250,000.

I bring this up, because in AD&D, the Ranger requires 325,000 XP to level. In AEC (which assumes the B/X rate), she requires 120,000 XP. This is the same rate as the B/X fighter, despite having all of the fighter's abilities (and then some) and despite requiring more in the game from which she is derived. Conversely, the Paladin requires quite a bit of XP in AEC: 220,000, whereas in AD&D he needs 350,000 XP. Proportionately speaking, by my reckoning the Ranger should require roughly 150,000 XP and the Paladin 170,000 (again, these are fairly rough).

Am I missing something here? Thanks!

EDIT: Got my facts wrong on the Paladin XP first time through. Fixed!

The range given for Summon Familiar is 10' per level (AEC 78). Unless your Magic-User is in a zoo, that makes the spell pretty useless. The Player's Handbook gives a range of 1 mile per level instead.

Detect Evil (AEC, p. 33) isn't listed as being reversible (both the Cleric and M-U versions in the PHB are).

Two things from the rakshasa description:

1. It mentions that they can Change Self. However, that spell seems to have been renamed Doppelganger in the illusionist spells section.
2. Their weakness to Blessed crossbow bolts isn't mentioned. Error or deliberate change?

Hi, I guess this is not strictly errata but:
The various "Hand" spells have a listed AC of 9, I guess the PHB gave no AC at all for these spells (so does OSRIC).
Considering they are all high level spells (5th or higher) it may be a good idea to lower this.
AD&D 2nd edition gave them an AC of 0, so an AC 1 may be a good compromise.

Edit: only now do I realize thet AC9 is already a compromise between 1st and 2nd edition, yet AC9 seems still too little for such high level spells (5th to 9th).

In the Duergar entry, the gesture language of the Drow is reported, but there is no mention of it in the Drow entry.
