Hexes

Postby 3llense'g » Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:37 pm

I'm working on a hex-crawl generator (well it's mostly done) and I bumped into something on the blogosphere: I didn't know there are different sized hexes used. So which size is appropriate for what? I assume the 6 and 5 mile hexes are basically the same thing. The 16 mile hex is used in LL. What else am I missing?

PS: the hex size names make no sense. :P

You can use any size hexes you want.

I prefer Hexes that are subdivided into thirds according to scale. That is, 9 miles, 3 miles, 1 mile. Since a league is 3 miles, that makes them

9 miles = 3 leagues
3 miles = 1 lague
1 miles = 1/3 league

I jump from 9 miles to 30 miles (10 leagues), then 90 miles (30 leagues)

A league is the distance one can travel on foot in one hour at a moderate pace on level clear land (like a paved road).

I have another anomaly. My "miles" are 7290 feet (as opposed to a "real" mile, that is 5280 feet)

That way, I can continue with my thirds. 2430/810/270/90/30/10

Hmm, thanks for the feedback guys. I'll have to think a bit more about that.
