Got tired of counting coins and figuring out ways to make those who sow the land pay more. Maybe I'll get back to that when I get older but don't count on it! Decided to make my way on my own for a bit and look for more of the arcane, you know, the strange and often rewarding that others fear to look for. Made it all the way out to the Emirates and found that things are just as dangerous there but it's a lot hotter and that bloody sand is just the foam on the kolbolds mouth! There is plenty to do back here in the homeland and no sand to boot! Excuse me friend... barkeep!... you over charged me by 3 silver...

The ring? Where did I get it? Well... I was in the Tundrill mountains with a group of dwarves fighting off a goblin incursion. Protecting mines and such. Gorath and I were captured and kept as prisoners. Strange thing for goblins to do but they were trying to exchange us for some of their leaders that were incarcerated by the dwarves. Anyway, one day they came to take Gorath and he gave me this ring to keep in the event he didn't make it. Gorath didn't return that night and I knew I had to hide the ring... so I hid it... in the only place the goblins never looked. For three and a half months I had to hide it at differing parts of the day. When I was released and saw Gorath again he asked me for the ring back, I told him that it was mine now and that I had earned it. After a few flagons of ale and an explanation he was only to happy to leave it with me. Bless his soul, Gorath did not make it through the debacle in the Emirates. In fact it even left me a little touched in the head...

Soldath was born in the Barony of Vorloi to a somewhat well to do family in the service of the baron. His parents position in society opened doors and were able to make arrangements for him to receive a decent education. Whilst in school one of his tutors started him down the pathway of magic even though his specialties were accounting and taxation. After school he decided to engage in wanderlust before settling down to proper business engagements in the kingdom. This wanderlust led him to the Emirates where he and his comrades fought long and hard to save a princess whilst keeping sand out of their boots.

Character background:
Pleased to meet you, I am Athelstan. I am from Rugalov Keep, until recently I was a Karamiekan soldier in the 4th division, Duke’s Road Battalion “Goblin-Crushers.” Since leaving the Army, I have been wandering, plying my trade as a humble warrior. Why did I leave the Crushers? Don’t get me wrong – I thought I’d live and die for Karamiekos, and I may yet do that, but my new calling is to aid the weak, poor and oppressed, and to crush the forces of darkness with the avenging might of Vanya behind me! Forgive me, I get excited sometimes when I speak of my commission. I have been seeking a group of stalwart companions to journey with, and share the challenges of great adventure… if you need a strong arm, stout heart and sharp blade, I’d be honored to join you!

Athelstan’s reserved disposition and humble lifestyle belies his wealthy upbringing. His father Richard Huxtley is an Army Captain at Radlebb Keep, and a hero of many skirmishes with the Black Eagle Barony. Athelstan is proud of his heritage, but prefers to keep a humble exterior appearance to others. He joined the Army as soon as he was old enough, and has many medals for his service. He is also very patriotic, even willing to fight those who would besmirch Karamiekos or the Duke. After journeying for a short time with a Heldannic knight, he began to follow Vanya and shapes much of his philosophy and fervor on the Heldannic knights rigid code, and religious precepts of Vanya.
Athelstan’s physically imposing presence is striking against his soft-spoken demeanor But when threatened or in a tense situation, his sense of duty and obligation to his friends brings out his “avenger of Vanya” personality. While tactically savvy, he is prone to rushing into combat when excited, and has been taunted into several unwise engagements in his time – thankfully prevailing mainly due to his talent and strength.
He keeps his blond hair in a buzzcut, and is obsessive about hygiene, cleanliness, and maintenance of his equipment. He dresses in black clothing, but wears a reversible cloak with a large Karamiekian crest on the back, and a subdued version of it on the reverse side (for instances where stealth is needed). Athelstan's 2 handed sword Chrysomer is an ornate silver sword with Thyatian runes and symbols on it, and was his father's treasured weapon, an award for meritorious service while he was in the Thyation army prior to coming to Karamiekos. His father gave it to him as a gift when he left home and Athelstan regards this sword as his most valued possession.
While every bit the professional soldier, he is devoted to the cause of good, and to those he calls friends.

"Hey there, I'm just a poor little cleric from a struggling homestead. I am currently on the flight, and tried to hide in one of the ruined homesteads of the region. But I must be moving fast: these goblins are everywhere! EVERYWHERE!

Huh, what? The chain mail? Well, I was hiding in this abandoned homestead, as I said. Looters came in as I was in the cave. Since I had nowhere to hide, I tried to hide in a large chest. Yeah, I know, silly idea... Long story short, I figured out that the bottom of the chest was a hidden entrance to a lower level cave. The chain mail was there, shiny and all, as if waiting for me to pick it up. There was nothing else in there, aside from a potion."

Background:
As a youngster, Tethir was always seeking to escape the constant serenity of normal life in the village, the infrequent visits of human traders always filled him with excitement and he used to spend as long as he could questioning them about life in the outside world. He would have to be dragged away by his parents to carry on with his studies lest he neglect them. In time as he grew older and was able to join in the defence of his community from the many marauding Goblin tribes, this new action became his addiction and source of fascination. The many brushes - which often he would instigate by tarrying in the wrong place on purpose - strengthened his sword arm and gave him more cause to want to visit the world beyond his village's bounds. Finally he now feels he is ready, he has reached a point in his magical studies where a wider experience is needed to push him on to greater heights of achievement and he cant learn too much more from yet another goblin raid. If only an opportunity would present itself for him to cling on to. Perhaps a band of seasoned adventurers would come by and be able to use his skills to complement what they already have and in return would show him the realm beyond the woods....
