You follow the trail deeper into the forest. You soon become used to the fact that you're the only living creatures around for miles.

It is with great surprise, then, that you hear the flutter of wings as dark shapes fly into view.

Bats! Giant bats! Materializing out of the canopy overhead. Half-dozen or so, and they're coming for you!

Actions!
Get thee to the dungeon. Get thee to the dungeon forthwith. Pass not the barbican. Amass not 200 GP.

Athelstan - Bat Killer

Athelstan will quickly dismount to assume a defensive position and draw his sword, ready to attack the first bat that flaps his way.

Renardius (Cleric)

Renardius does a quick look-around for any simultaneous ground-based threats, then readies himself for combat.

Day 16, Loshdain, Thaumont 16th, The Stone Wood, Combat Round 1

The first bat swoops at Harn, who is guarding Soldath. The dwarf wards it off with his shield. He throws a hammer in retailiation, but it misses, smashing into a petrified tree limb, which crumbles.

Soldath casts his sleep spell at a cluster of three bats. Two instantly crash to the ground, but one keeps coming. Athelstan slices it in two with Chrysomer.

Renardius, seeing no ground threats, takes a swipe at a bat with Smiter. Bat brains fly as it hits the ground with a thud.

At the same time, the remaining bat swoops into Renardius, sinking his teeth into the face (3 hp dmg). Renardius shakes himself free with a yell.

Tret fires an arrow at the remaining bat, but the creature moves too quickly out of range, and the shot goes wide.

Two bats are dead, two sleeping, one in flight. Renardius is wounded.

Renardius Pentacrucis 14/25
Soldath 7/10
Athelstan 20/25
Tret Renegats 12/18
Harn Hammerhand 19/30

Athlstan

Athelstan swings at the bat and says "Look sharp! Last time we saw bats such as these, goblins were afoot!"
