You can just make out the spike with Continual Light cast on it that you passed on your way down the spiral stair from the stalactite behind you. The tunnel ahead is littered with lizardmen, some burned.

The staff is charged and can be used on everyone today (it is a new day) and you have all of your spells.

You come to a long, rectangular room with a stone table, a fire pit, a clay urn, and several wooden cages full of dead, burned rats. A wooden ladder stands in one corner. It is singed but still fully usable. The urn is full of fishy-smelling water.

Another tunnel leaves the room, descending in a sharply sloping ramp.

The ladder leads to a hatch in the ceiling of the room. Its purpose is to be a conveyance upward.
