Wasteland CRPG Map

Postby Kristian » Mon Feb 28, 2011 8:11 am

I made a map of the overworld from Wasteland to amuse myself and thought I'd share the results with the board.

For those who'd like to modify the map, I've made the Hexographer .hxm available on MediaFire.

Too funny! I wonder if many people even remember Wasteland? I had it for the Apple II...and never really played it much.

I had that game for my Apple //e, and I think that it may be my favorite computer RPG ever. It was an exceptionally well done game for the time, IMHO. A great story just dripping with post-apocalyptic goodness, and quite a few surprises thrown in. It was the inspiration for all of the later Fallout titles, if I recall correctly.

Yeah...I thought some ex-wasteland developers worked on Fallout and wanted it to be a sequel but could not get the rights. I think in Fallout 1 they make a couple of Wasteland references in the game.

Best. Game. Ever.

I played it a lot on my C=64 back in the day, still play it now on a C=64 emulator. :D

Thanks for that Kristian! Any chance we could get a larger pic? (I don't have hexographer)

The click-through size is about 1200 square.

I'll export a larger size that anyone can resize to their preferences tonight or tomorrow.

I had a lot of fun doing this but I'd like to do something more unique in the future. My next map project will be the Williamette Valley of Oregon and surrounds, based on Brin's The Postman.

I remember Phantasy for the old Comadore 64 !! Good times.
To defend: This is the Pact.

and is taken for naught -
then the Pact is to Avenge.

The Phantasie series would be an interesting mapping challenge for someone with a love of the series. I did have a little fun playing that. What other games, novels, or movies have notable maps? Boulder vs Vegas in The Stand? The East Coast as Portrayed in Autoduel? What about the City and Undercity of 2400 AD?

Ok here's a much bigger image as requested. Life bit me on the butt, hard, the last few weeks and I just got swamped.
