My Map Collection

Postby Dyson Logos » Sat Dec 18, 2010 1:55 am

I updated my MAPS page on my blog recently with something like 3 dozen maps for you to use in your games or as inspiration.

ALSO, If you do use my map for a game and post the stocked version of it to your blog, I'll provide cross-promotion by linking to it.

I've also got a pack of over 100 geomorphs that you can download and use to make dungeons of your own.

Do you use a specific computer program or are these hand drawn?

All my maps are hand-drawn. All the ones on the blog so far are drawn in black pen on either plain paper or graph paper (no first drafts or anything like that... just draw and go!). I'll have a few going up soon that were drawn in pencil (not quite as sharp looking).

After that I scan them, contrast-enhance them, and post them.

Wow, Im seriously impressed. Cool stuff!!

For some reason I cant get any of the maps to print out- i just get a bunch of words & code.

Could you tell me about the drawing materials...specifically the type of pens, paper, etc.
Also, I really like the filler you've drawn between rooms. Great work!

Seriously?

Black gel pens. Whatever I have on hand really - typically the Sarasa brand from Staples, but really any .5mm to .7mm gel pen will do. .5 makes for much finer mapping, but .7s are a lot easier to come by so I use them most of the time. I also have recently done a bunch in pencil that will be showing up soon, but they don't look as sharp because I really have to crank the contrast when I scan them.

Mapping Paper:
Plain white paper, just pages pulled out of the printer.
Sticky Notes
Insides of novel book covers
Postcards
Business Cards
Occasionally graph paper

Dyson Logos - didn't you have some stuff posted in the map section on the old goblinoid forum? Your work looks familiar and - like everyone else (and over there) I LOVE YOUR WORK!!!!!!!! I checked out your blog and it's the one I was thinking of - I just love, love, love your 'sideview' maps!

You asked, "Seriously?" hahahaha - well I'm glad you took jcftao seriously and answered the question, because I was about to ask it too!! I like drawing maps (when I have time = never) and I would have used pencil - thanks for the 'tip' (haha, a pun on pens) on using .5 & .7 gel pens - it makes sense they would be a lot more clearer! I agree w/jcftao - I love your filler also - all of it, the 'pointalism' and 'cross-hatch' looking stuff is way sweet.

Nice work man! Very nice!
SUCCESSFUL "TRADES" with: tumblingdice x2, Blood axe, and Kipper! ~ thanks to all of you! :D

Yeah, I've been posting my maps up for well over a year now, and pimping them on and off on the forums.

The latest map added to the blog is the one I made for elf23's Dungeon Creation Game over in the Workshop forum.
