Caydon - Rogue
Caydon looks around at his companions. If the consensus is to go by the way of the double-locked door, he will check it for traps, then attempt to pick the locks.

Thurwin gives Caydon a pat on the back and says "Do be careful my friend." And he'll stand back and watch.

Caydon inspects the door for traps Thief skill [1d100] = 17 and finds none.

He then sets forth on the first lock Thief skill [1d100] = 74 which he can't crack. The second, a large padlock on a chain across the door, he tries Thief skill [1d100] = 2 which pops open.

Activity can be heard through the door. Caydon tries the first lock again but no dice (literally. The DM doesn't allow it. ;) ) Morgan and Pax apply shoulders and boots and the door swings open, the old, damp jamb breaking!

This dark, filthy chamber holds eleven people: nine men and two women. All are naked, and the males are chained to the wall. They blink hard against the light of the doorway, the women covering their eyes. The smell of human waste and dirty people fills your nostrils.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin recoils at the stench but quickly composes himself after seeing the occupants of the room. He waves his hand quickly, motioning toward the freedom of the hallway "Come out, your freedom is at hand!" He quickly removes his cloak and calls out the women "Ladies, come here, nothing to fear!" And he'll offer his cloak to one of them, calling out to the group "Gentlemen, let's take these folks to get some clothing, shall we?

OOC: We probably need to escort these folks to the room with the clothing and let them get what they can, then we can take them to the tower to get them rested and fed and if any are in fighting shape, we can arm them as well. (Of course, Morgan can check their motivations too... they could be spies)

Pax removes his traveling cloak and offers it to one of the women.

Pax: "I'm sorry ladies-here, one of you must surely have my cloak it is much cleanlier than your former garments."

OoC: If the men chained to the wall are fastened at the wrist (and it is not too high to reach) by leather or some such strapping, Pax will begin to unloose the straps. Otherwise if they are entirely made of iron (metal) he will look to the lockmaster to assist...

Caydon - Rogue
Caydon will attempt to free the chained men. "Ladies, perhaps we could huddle together for warmth," he says as he holds his cloak open, grinning from ear to ear.

"Not too many questions at once, lads," Morgan says. He will offer his cloak to the nearest freed prisoner, and then try to detect evil.

The chains (for they are indeed chains, not leather straps) of the manacles are easily picked by Caydon.

Morgan's insight is that none are evil. Calthas' question is answered with, We were to be sacrifices, I think. Or food for ghouls. by one of the chained men.

One of the men, once freed, hugs a woman, throwing the thief a glance of anger. He accepts Thurwin's short cloak for the woman he guards. The other from Pax is taken by her handmaid: it's short but serves its purpose.

You soon discover that two of the men are merchants, one now guarding his wife. Three of the men are servants to the merchants and four of them are men-at-arms, now lacking arms. The final man is a sailor. They tell of being captured by raiding ghouls, except for the sailor, who was brought here by Dick Rentsch and his men as punishment for making a pass at Dala.

The names Dick Rentsch and Dala are familiar to Morgan, being the hosteler and one of the wenches at The Waterside Hostel in Nulb. He'd kept an eye on Rentsch but hadn't discovered a connection to the Temple until now.

In response to Tavin's question, all have superficial wounds but nothing major.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin glances at the former captives and then at Morgan and says "Now might be a good time to take these folks back to the tower, eh?" Thurwin smiles at the people and trying to defuse Caydon's joke he says to them "You are free now, we will lead you to safety. We may have some weapons and gear that you could use as well. At the least, let's get you cleaned up and fed, then we can discuss what to do next."

OOC: They are a liability with us down here, so we prob need to escort them to the tower. We stripped all the weapons and armor from the brigands, so we should have some extra weapons and such that we could give to those able to use them. Heck, we may even see if the more hardy of the bunch want to help us kill some evil things. My thoughts are to take them to the tower for some food and rest and to get cleaned up. As for the guy who put some of these folks here, what should we do with him? Might be a good time to rattle the cage...
