Old Forum Import?

Old Forum Import?

Postby Vlark » Wed Dec 15, 2010 6:57 pm

Is there anyway to import the discussions from the old forums into these? I am totally clueless as to how feasible that would be, but the old forums have some great resources that I'd hate to see disappear into the ether.

Unfortunately, the owners of the free forums have told me they won't allow me to back it up. So that means that slowly over time I can manually paste some stuff in, or other members can also. The old forums will likey still be there for a long time, serving as an archive, though there are no guarantees since it is out of my hands.

Well that's a damn shame. Will THIS forum let you export if you ever need to?

Absolutely, I am hosting this myself now. I will do regular backups.

Maybe you could get in contact with the web master for Troll Lord Games? I know they recently imported their forums from http://www.freeyabb.com/trolllordgames/ to http://www.trolllord.com/forums/. Unless there is some nuance I am missing (and there probably is), I would think you could do the same for http://www.freeyabb.com/goblinoidgames/ to http://goblinoidgames.com/forums/.
It is a joyful thing indeed to hold intimate converse with a man after one’s own heart, chatting without reserve about things of interest or the fleeting topics of the world; but such, alas, are few and far between.

They must have somehow convinced the owners of the free hosting to let them, maybe paid them, I'm not sure. In my correspondance with the freeyabb guys they wouldn't help me.

Well, no harm in asking. I think the handle of the guy who did it is aztecman, though "aztecjade" is his Yahoo mail address.
