Part 9 - The Temple Again

Effric listens at the other door and, hearing nothing, opens it too.



Something has taken considerable pains to decorate this disused storeroom. The walls are covered with a plastering of excrement and bones, to form both patterns and shelf-like bone ledges. Skulls leer from these shelves — human, humanoid, dwarven, and various sorts of other creatures as well. The floor is a conglomerate of bones and ordure. A large armchair and crude table of sorts, each fashioned from bones, stand in the northwest corner. In the southeast corner is a heap of torn cloth, leather scraps, bits of tapestries, and pieces of rugs. Suddenly the pile moves, and something rises — a huge troll!

Effric is at the door to room 219 (which is where the huge troll is). Everyone else, it seems, is back at 203, so melee will take some travel time

Effric slams the door shut and casts fire trap on it, then backs away to warn the others.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin glances up quickly and says "What? Troll?" He glances at the trash and then the oil cask and says "Quick! get to the back of the room, and we'll douse this trash with oil and give him a nice reception. Get a torch ready!"

OOC: Maybe if we make sure the thing is coming, then we douse the trash, when it comes in the room we holler and make like we're terrified (not hard to do) and then when he gets in we set it off. Who has the marshmallows?

Errr...?!?! Backing up. Seeing what is going on he will keep his sword in one hand and grab a star with the other waiting for the door to open.

Bror - Dwarf Fighter

Upon hearing the warning from Effric, Bror leaves his post and enters the room before the door, readying himself for battle, lifting both Glimmer, his axe, and his shield while awaiting the troll.

Calthas fights against his discomfort and moves forward. He aims an arrow at the now closed door, ready to shoot when it opens.

Effric backpedals and casts his ward. He hustles into the room. The others wait.

The door bursts open with an explosion as the fire trap dmg [1d4+3] = 4+3 = 7 is set off. The being wading through the burst seems unfazed by the heat. The troll is huge: his leathery hide covered in bone armor and jewelry encrusts neck, waist, and hand. He carries no weapon but his long, cragged fingernails and teeth look deadly.

Calthas looses a shaft Calthas ranged attack [1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19 and Tavin a shuriken Tavin attack [1d20] = 6 but neither injure the beast, the arrow embedding in the bone of the troll's helmet. The beast narrows his eye at the elf and wades into the room!

Thurwin gets wide eyed at the sight of the troll. He says to the others "Not good! The fire doesn't seem to be affecting him! We might consider fleeing..."

OOC: If we think we can take this guy, then we can slog it out, but I think running like hell is my vote at the moment - especially if fire is not affecting this guy at the moment.

"I'm in agreement, Thurwin. I have nothing left that will affect such a creature," Effric says.

"By Saint Cuthbert!!" the Gnome gasps ~ he casts Bless on his party.

OOC: Since this game thread can see regular spurts of "feast" (multiple posts), I'll say Calmert's next action is to cast 'curse' (Bless reversed) on the Troll in the event a run of posts happens before I can check again.
