Tret, rogue

Readies his bow and creeps with Jarek, not too closely though. Perhaps 20 yards away from him and parallel to our goal. He communicates using the hand-signals Jarek taught him, which they've used in the past when they were a twosome.

You proceed quietly and with caution. The forest suddenly ends on the bank of a river. Its current races below a wooden bridge which leads to a gate set within a palisade. The buildings of the homestead beyond it are mostly intact, but are lit by flames leaping from a barn to the left of the bridge. In a clearing (not yet pictured) on the far side of the burning barn, you can see the attackers--goblins, or possibly orcs--and from your right, beyond the main part of the homestead, come the cries of frightened horses.

I have placed your characters on the map based on your marching order, most recent actions and available space. Unless stated otherwise, all maps will have a scale of 1 square = 5 feet from now on.

Image

There is a rustle in the bushes, followed by another war cry! You're surrounded by ugly faces and flying spears. It's an ambush!

Image
Picture is for dramatic purposes only, and does not reflect actual position of enemies, even though it came with the module. :? See map below.

Igli's nostrils flair at the unmistakable scent of the dwarves' sworn enemy. Goblins! Three of the spears hit their mark: Athelstan (3 hp dmg),
Bizenghast (6 hp dmg!) and Jarek (6 hp dmg!). The rest either fall to the earth with a thunk! or plunge into the damp ground with a pfft!

Image

The goblins had the advantage of one surprise round. They are now brandishing axes and stepping out of the bushes toward you. Defend yourselves!

Actions?
Get thee to the dungeon. Get thee to the dungeon forthwith. Pass not the barbican. Amass not 200 GP.

If none are closer then Igli rushes into the enemies north of him screaming a dwarfish battle cry, followed by "die disemboweled by my axe" in goblin. He engages the biggest or closest goblin he can.

Athelstan - Happy-Crazy Man

Brushing the spear aside, Athelstan will roar and charge with a mighty sweep of his sword at the one who is closest to Bizengast (I guess that'd be the South?), and try to put himself between her and the goblins...

Pulls the spear from her abdomen - lucky she wears so many robes or the spear would have skewered her! She tries to position herself to maximize the number of targets for her sleep spell; she casts it as soon as she believes she has the best angle for targets.

Marion - Hobbit

Rushes one to her south with her +1 boar spear 'pigsticker'. "Die dogs!!!"

Let the red dawn surmise
What we shall do,
When this blue starlight dies
And all is through.

Jarek - thief

Doing his best to ignore his new spear wound, Jarek quickly backs away and fires an arrow at the Goblin closest to him.

Tret, rogue

An arrow in a goblin is a good thing, thinks the rogue as he fires an arrow at the closest of them.
