Here's a start; let me know what you think. I did draw on some Greyhawk lore (from the 83 box set; cf. Ockert's special abilities) since we're playing a Greyhawk module. Hope that's OK. If you would be so kind as to roll my HP, I'll keep tinkering with him til we're ready to go.

Character background:
As he lay under a mound of bodies, barely alive himself, after the Battle of Emridy Meadows, the young Ockert Oxheart — peasant, pikesman and farmer — was visited by St. Cuthbert. “You are such a hard-headed one as I would have serve me,” the god said to him. “If I spare you, will you take up the Cudgel?” Not in the habit of saying no to a god, Ockert also recognized a good deal when he heard one. After the battle, he promptly shuttered his farmstead in his homeland of Bissel and began his crusade, first along the Wild Coast, then in the Shield Lands, where he pummeled the truth into many a humanoid skull, and rose quickly among the ranks of the Chapeaux.
Ockert is tall and burly, with a shock of prematurely graying hair — and a magnificent walrus-mustache — that makes him look substantially older than his 33 years. He wears the famously crumpled beret of his order and a gunmetal blue cape affixed with an electrum broach bearing the symbol of St. Cuthbert (worth 65 gp). He speaks in a bellowing voice, and is prone to outrageous oaths ("Great Fharlanghn's hobnailed boots!") that often leave people guessing uneasily whether he’s being serious or joking.
