"Well I suppose that's my cue." Grabbing a torch, Caydon examine the area around the chest (walls, floor, ceiling, chain) for traps to circumvent. If all is well, he will examine the chest itself. If he still feels comfortable, he will hand the torch to a helper and then use the crowbar on the lid's hinges to gain access to the wonderous items within.

Calthas prepares an arrow and stays behind, waiting to see the outcome of Caydon's attempt at opening the chest.

Caydon checks the chest and the surrounding area for traps Thief skill [1d100] = 14. He discovers a needle trap in the lock and, deciding against convention, takes his crowbar to the hinges to open the chest "in reverse". The hinges break with some effort and grunting.

Inside are a bullseye lantern and tinderbox, two leather bags (containing 183 ep and 240 gp, respectively), a gold box set with ivory (worth 350 gp), a silvery potion, and a scroll.

Morgan eyes the potion with interest. He'll remove the cork and give it a sniff. Realizing he knows nothing about potions, he'll then hand it to Thurwin. "What do you make of this, brother," he asks.

The Gnome peeks at the scroll, to see if he can determine its nature.

His bow still in hands, Calthas asks what is in the gold box.

Thurwin takes the potion and looks it over. With a shrug he hands it back to Morgan and says "Sorry, I don't know. I could take a tiny sip and see what happens?" If no one wants to try, Thurwin will take a small sip to see if he can discern it's purpose - assuming that would work and wouldn't destroy the potion...

The gold box is prodded and falls open. It is empty but seem valuable in itself (worth 350 gp).

Calmert examines the scroll. It has two cleric spells (animate dead and prayer)

Thurwin tests the silvery potion. To him everything slows down but he can move as normal. To everyone else, he is a blur of motion. In a few seconds, the Potion of Speed wears off. Thurwin finds himself craving it...

"Potion of Speed huh? That might come in handy for everyone's favorite trap breaker and risk taker," Caydon suggests, hoping that no one points out that Thurwin also took a risk in tasting the potion.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin shakes his head and stares at the potion. "Whoa. That was pretty neat." He stoppers it and shares what he's learned about it. "That could come in handy." He sets it down with the other treasure for someone to snag, as he's not interested in it (although he'd love to slug it down and run around...)
