The Hobbit movie- going tonight?

Postby Blood axe » Fri Dec 14, 2012 7:12 pm

Taking my son to go see The Hobbit tonight. Is it really going to be 3 movies?

Disappointed. Im a big fan of Tolkein. I liked the LOTR trilogy. This felt stretched out. Alot of stuff that wasnt in the movie. Too much over the top action.

Took my son today, since he finally finished the book yesterday. He enjoyed it, and it kept his interest during the three-hour run time. However, Peter Jackson is clearly padding things out, turning passing mentions in a single sentence into whole action sequences and weaving conspiracies where none existed in the book. I'm sure the second two installments will manage to be as entertaining as his other movies. But really, if Rankin-Bass could tell a faithful version of the story in a 77-minute animated special (1977), surely Jackson could have told a faithful version in a single three-hour movie.

I heard a rumor that it was going to be spread over three movies, but now it's confirmed; my response was, "WTF are you serious?! ...C'mon!"

LOTR = 3 Books, so 3 Movies made sense.
Hobbit = 1 Book... umm... did I miss something?

Ya, Jackson's Padding it alright. He should have done ONE movie, maybe two if he wanted to include the minor stuff. Save that "turn a passing sentence into an action sequence" for the Silmarillion! :x

Tolkien/The Hobbitwas just taken from awesome to money grabbing!

The blu-ray will be available soon. This got me thinking, as long and drawn-out as the movie was, can there possibly be an extended/directors edition? Perhaps a 25 minute deleted scene of a constipated Gandalf squatting behind a rock, trying to do his "business", yelling "THIS...SHALL NOT...PASS!"
