How Should I Design New AEC Races?

Postby samwise7 » Mon Mar 31, 2014 3:39 pm

Does anyone have any suggestions for making new Advanced Edition Companion races for Labyrinth Lord? I normally like the Race Classes but I think making the AEC races would be easier. The only thing I can think of is to look to see what abilities the races in the AEC have and to try to make new ones of roughly comparable power. I looked online to see if there were any guides for making AD&D races and my Google-Fu has failed me. I'm just looking for a few pointers. Have any of you ever made your own races that aren't the standard player races in the book? Thanks for any advice you give me.

I'm going to try to reboot and re-write this old setting of mine for AEC LL.

Some of the Labyrinth Lord supplements have additional races. Realms of Crawling Chaos as well as Lesserton and Mor come immediately to mind, but there may be others out there. You could have a look at those for some idea-seeds.

Thanks, I'll look there first. I have a PDF of Lesserton & More on my laptop... somewhere.

There is also Mount Rotten ;)

I would first make sure that none of the existing races would work with just the serial numbers filed off.

Has anyone written up Goblins, Hobgoblins, Kobolds, etc. as AEC player races?

Were there any additional player races ever put out for AD&D? Those might be a good place to start, but I'm not very familiar with the books of that game line even though I own them... :)

These are the ones covered in "In the Shadow of Mount Rotten", which bighara already recommended. Don't reinvent the wheel my friend.
