I agree. I much prefer the Moldvay set over Mentzer. But some people started with Mentzer.

I said it before, but I actually started with Moldvay, I just didn't know it at the time because my DM told us if we owned the books it would ruin the game. It wasn't until a few years later when the shiny new D&D red box came out that I actually owned my first RPG book and taught myself how to run games. That began not only my love of DMing, but also my love of boxed sets. I'm a sucker for a good boxed set.

Lots of old gamers here. :D Nothing against the new gamers starting with LL, or those who started with Mentzer. ;) (or not)
