Tret manages to hit one of the retreating bowman with an arrow (3 hp dmg), but not enough to kill it.

The enemy's horses are swifter than Athelstan's warhorse, Bud. After a few minutes they evade pursuit, and disappear across the plains.

What next? Everyone gawk at the wolfman for a few minutes and hope he doesn't attack you?

Athelstan does his best to look stoic and ornery, but keeps an eye on Were-Soldath out of the corner of his eye. Once back with the others, he'll start to search the leader and see if he can find any clues to see if this was a random attack or a targeted assault.

Spinning the bloody axe in his hand, Jörg squints at the were. "Is this to be getting ugly, friend Soldath?" But after a few seconds of painful contemplation, the barbarian grins, "This is no worse than traveling with Thyatians Jörg thinks!"

Tret smirks, Why would he want to do that, Merin? He's much more powerful as this wolf-thing. I'm pretty sure that blow he took would have killed the old Soldath, but the new-improved Soldath shrugged it off and struck back. I just hope he can't case sleep in this state...

Athelstan dismounts, then searches the leader. He's carrying 50 gp. More interestingly, he has a brand on his left forearm. It looks like two manacles linked by a chain.

"What do you suppose that means," Harn asks?

At the sight of the brand Athelstan scowls and says "Not these cockroaches again." He roughly grabs the mans arm and hoists him up pointing at the brand to Tret and Soldath. "Remember these scum? Last time we saw this was on Kalanos' boat when more men with this mark attacked us. Coincidence? I think not."

Without skipping a beat, Athelstan brings Chrysomer down on the arm, chopping it cleanly off. He rips some fabric from the dead man's clothing and ties it to the wrist, dangling the arm from Bud's saddle.

"Let's get moving. Those two who escaped will no doubt report our progress to whomever they work for. Maybe we can learn more about their markings when we get to town."

Point of information: five, not two, bowmen escaped the encounter.

Even though he had been looking closely at Soldath ever since he turned all hairy, Meringered suddenly gets his eyes off him to turn to Athelstan. "And why would someone send people to attack you on sight? You don't have any idea? Really?" he asks, his interest piqued.
