Before we start I should probably introduce myself as I have not been on these boards for very long. I've been playing rpg's and adventure games since nearly the beginning back in the late seventies. Like most I started with D&D, but fantasy was never my favorite genre and when sci-fi games began to appear I switched. Starships & Spacemen was one of these early games, along with Traveller and a few others. As the years went by new games came out which I added to my collection, games such as Pacesetters Star Ace, Timemaster and Chill, Gamescience's Space Patrol and Star Patrol and of course FASA's Star Trek.
Then in the late 80's something new appeared; the internet. This wasn't the World Wide Web as we know it now. Instead it consisted of a number of seperate bulletin board/chat room services that you had to subscribe to. America Online, Prodigy, GEnie and Quantum Link (Q-Link for short) were some of them. I was a Q-Link subscriber and ran a few message based games (thats what we called PbP back then) there. I ran a Star Wars-like campaign using Star Patrol, a Battlestar Galactica campaign using GURPS Space, and a retro sci-fi 'rockets and rayguns' style campaign also using GURPS Space and GURPS Cliffhangers.
So it's true, I haven't ran a PbP game for quite a few years, but I think it will be fun to do it again and I look forward to it. Hope you all do too!
