[2d6x10] = 5x10 = 50 Thats quite a bit for a monk.

Question on DC XP (I haven't played DCC before) - are we starting at level 1 with 10XP? Or level 0? If the latter, does that mean we have no class abilities until we get to level 1? That might be fun...

Spells - with a WIS of 15 a 1st level druid gets 4 1st level spells, so I can cast any of the four as long as I stay in good standing as a neutral druid?

I was also thinking of the druidic 1st level spell animal companion - it might be fun to give Effric a pet wolf or something along those lines that he can train.

People start at 0 unless they provide a background and picture, that gives a slight bonus.

yep

That's fine.

What is DCC?

Also, since my monk is a "Serene Ascetic" and can cast cleric spells at 1/2 level does he get the WIS bonus on spells?

Dungeon Crawl Classics, which I'm pilfering two things from (the XP table and the Crits and Fumbles tables) for house rules. I should also mention that I've pilfered some house rules from sonofotho's Stonehell campaign.

No. Only true clerics/druids get WIS bonuses. Other classes, when gaining the ability to cast cleric spells, do not get WIS bonuses as they are not specialists in that class.

A word on Alignment:

Alignment is a serious thing in the world of Greyhawk. Deities and demons choose followers and grant abilities due to their worshiper's alignments. Only druids can be (and must be) true Neutral, everyone else must choose. It's only the incredibly stupid who do not believe in the gods and the gods can and will strike down non-believers. I know other campaigns have played fast and loose with alignment and I want this one to be different.

That said, when you choose an alignment for your character, your character must act as if that is what he or she is. It is defining of the character. If a character is acting outside of his alignment, he is acting out of character and, not only will incur the consequences set out in the house rules, but other characters should react appropriately.

An excellent example of this is the way Jayce, kjc's character, is reacting to Marcus' actions (played by me) in badams excellent "Northlands of Adventure" PbP campaign in these forums. Marcus is the moral compass (from Jayce's perspective) and has acted in a way that seems extreme to Jayce and makes him question Marcus' intent/sanity/actions. Marcus needs to justify that his actions are sound, which he tries to do by explaining his actions (and his reactions to the cult they are trying to destroy currently). kjc's roleplaying there is an excellent example of alignment roleplaying.

One can argue that alignment is stupid or too restricting or something, or that characters who stick to a specific alignment are somehow dull. Those arguments might even have some merit. But even in Martin's excellent A Song of Ice and Fire series, characters have and act in alignment terms -- and yet have true depth because they stay in character.

It will likely make roleplaying (and DMing) more challenging but, I aver, also more fun and give characters more depth. If everyone chooses and alignment and then acts chaotic neutral, what's the point?
