Id like to see the Kzinti make a come back. Or something close. Wish I had the $$$ to be an Admiral when the Kickstarter was going! ;)

I will release a free license, so you could always make them yourself! Or simply write them up on the forum.

Are the Rigel basically Romulans?

Nope. That's the Videni.

The Rigellians seem more like Khan and his merry crew of escapees from the Eugenics Wars.

Yes, the Rigel are (literally) a Zangid/Human hybrid race.

Funny thing, while I was explaining S&S to a possible player, he thought the Rigellians sounded like they were lifted from the Nietzschean race. From the tv series Andromeda Rising.
He said the only thing missing were the forearm spikes.

A lot of Andromeda was sort of borrowed from Star Trek. They basically used a premise that Roddenberry had come up with for two failed pilots (Genesis II and Planet Earth) and decided to put it in space.

How about the rest of the races? Who are they analogues of? Who are the Romellans of this setting?

Just a quick note that one of the GMs in our small/budding gaming group over here -
https://plus.google.com/communities/100273923088151184440
has posted a document of races for use with S&S2e.
We have plenty of other links and resources throughout as well (including a port of the original FASA career path*)
Not trying to pull folks away from this forum. Just G+ community is just where we generally keep things
postedfor the running event we are administrating.
