Meringered is a bit surprised to have been chosen to perform this rather silly ritual, but computes that it shouldn't be so bad since it does not seem dangerous in itself -- and nobody will probably see him. So he slowly takes position, and, after a last uneasy look at his companions, lifts one leg and starts whistling. Discreetly at first, and a bit louder after hearing the complaints of his party mates.

Meringered's whistle pierces the silence. Some of your horses turn back their ears at the sound. It's so powerful that, somewhere, some babushka taking herself for a midnight stroll on the moors, blushes, and says to herself, "You still got it." ;)

No one appears, but then it's only the first night. Stelios said you had to do this for three nights.

What next? Make camp? Build a fire? Travel at night and rest in the daytime?

Tret, rogue

You know my preference. No fires. Travel at night. Hole in during the light.

Athelstan - Fighter

Athelstan shrugs and says "I'm with Tret. Cold camp, let's do this again tomorrow. Perhaps we can do some scouting in the meantime, in the morning... that is."

OOC: Athelstan votes to sleep with normal watches, no fires or lights.

The night passes without incident.

Day 21, Moldain, Thaumont 21st, high moors, daybreak

You awake stiff and sore, surrounded by fog. Something feels different, though. It's...warm! The first warm day of spring.

After a cheerful breakfast, you pack up and prepare to move on.

You suspect you're about nine miles due east of Sukiskyn. Is it still your intention to head north? Do you wish to go straight across the moors? Stay close to the forest? Head northeast to hill country and follow the escarpment? Something else?

Day 21, Moldain, Thaumont 21st, high moors, late afternoon

The fog lifts as you set out for the day, the moors stretching out for miles in all directions. There's not a cloud to be seen, and you have no trouble finding your way north based on the sun's position in the sky. Occasional streams and ponds cross your path, and their cool waters bring you and your horses relief. You see ordinary wildlife but no signs of men or monsters.

As the day passes, a ridge begins to form on the horizon. As the sun starts to dip in the sky, the ground gently begins sloping down toward a river. Based on its size, you think it's the Volaga, the same river on which you started this whole journey. Across the water, the bank forms a steep escarpment, above and beyond which lies more hill country. At this point you see no easy way to cross the river. The current is too strong.

"Mmmm... We probably need to follow the river one way or the other..." mumbles Meringered pensively.

Athelstan - Fighter

Athelstan nods in agreement. "Yes, that sounds as good a route as any. And we can turn back in time to camp in the moors again. And hopefully this horse man will appear."

Tethir - Elf
"A strange landscape - I'm missing trees" he mumbles....louder:

"How far do you think we've come from the village?"
