The Village of Hommlet

It's been a long ride coming from the lands of the Wild Coast. You believe that the village of Hommlet is but a day ahead and you feel that it could come sooner.

Badly mounted, poorly equipped, tired and short on money, you all come with the same general purpose: In response to the call for assistance that the village sent to the Viscount. It is all you have heard about in the taverns, inns, and farmer's barns, from random travellers, tradesmen, and workers met on the road. You've seen bandits on the road, avoiding them when you could.

The stories that lead you here and the danger that caused you to seek out each other's company, for travelling in numbers is always safer, is at once thrilling and menacing. Are the roads as dangerous as they claim? Is the whole community engaged in evil practices? Are the folk here bumpkins, easily duped? Does a curse lay upon those who dare to venture into the lands which were once the Temple's?

The day is autumnal and a tad chilly, and the occasional breeze cuts through cloth and between armor joints. But at least it isn't raining. The sun has passed it's apex and shadows are rowing longer, and the road is hard-packed, deeply rutted and, in patches, muddy.

Keen eyes spot a group in a copse of trees a few hundred yards ahead. Bandits? Apple pickers? Thieves? Hedge knights? You cannot tell from here...

Thurwin - Magic User

Thurwin grips his staff a bit tighter, and says quietly to the others "Hmm... wonder who that is? Be careful, fellows..."

OOC: Thurwin is fine being in the middle of the pack, or toward the back.

Tavin - Monk

Tavin will walk forward and raise a hand: Ho there! We come in peace!

Effric - Druid

Effric calms Sly and cautiously approaches the group.

OOC: I had proposed a marching order in the OOC thread a while back.

Grimulf — Fighter

Grimulf follows his companions as they approach the apple grove. He stops about 20' short of the strangers and leans on the handle of his bardiche, waiting to hear how they account for themselves.

OOC: Grimulf should probably be on point, unless there are height issues with folks discharging missiles behind him.

Calthas quietly leads his mount into the trees so be at least a little under cover, and slowly readies an arrow in his bow.

OOC: I agree with the order proposed by merias in the OOC thread.

Encounter at Far Point

Two of the men step into the road. One pulls a long blade and the other levels a light crossbow. Calling them "men" is a stretch of the term, for they are clearly just into their teens. The sword bearer has a wisp of a mustache and his friend isn't clean-shaven as much as yet beardless. They are both human and dressed in what could be used for work clothes.

You can see a third trying his best to hide in the bushes, but failing miserably, and a forth on horseback also "hidden" behind the trees. His horse is ready to bolt at any minute and you could swear that the rider is either a younger human or even a small halfling or beardless gnome.

The blade bearer responds to the Monk, You claim peace but many have claimed that to get advantage. Who are you and what is your intention? He then says something in what is gibberish to most of you.

Rilo steps forward and says, "Well met, young sir." As he does so he holds his hands out indicating that he's no threat. He then replies in the same gibberish before turning to his companions, "They were seeking to ensure that we held no ill intent and are looking for our assistance. I have assured them that they need not fear us and we are here in response to the request from the Vicount and that I'd be grateful if the two fellows lurking in the bushes would stop, it's embarrassing."

Tavin - Monk

Perhaps they would be willing to lead us to the vicount.... he will say loud enough for his companions to hear.

Thurwin - MAge

Thurwin steps between the men and our party and holds his hands up saying "Rilo is correct. These men are no threat."
