Just take a Nightwalker and make it 6 feet tall.

There was an original BECMI version in the Master set if my memory serves me well.

I've looked and I might use the Nightwalker as a base for the Deathlords, though some of them are 7-8 feet tall instead of the "mere" 6 feet tall you suggested. I assume this is what you meant, am I right?

I don't know Deathlords; but Nazgul are easy; they're already in D&D! Chainmail says to treat them as Wraiths and oD&D (before the Tolkien purge) says to treat them as specters. I'd be tempted to split the difference: let them be wraiths except for the Nazgul king, he can be a specter.

Depending on how special you want the Nazgul to be and how casually you use wraiths & specters, I can understand the urge to beef them up.

Would they be utterly invulnerable to the PCs or would the PCs eventually rise to the point that they could effectively challenge these enemies of all that lived?

+1 weapons. Kind of a lame answer; they're so old school everyone already knows their weaknesses. So, invulnerable to peasant types, dangerous for PCs with levels but not unstoppable.

Deathlords are basically the ghosts of demi-god champions bent and corrupted by dark forces into masters of the Underworld and lords of undeath. I'm using the skelleton (no pun intended) of 3.5's nightwalker and shrinking it to human size as artkid suggested. By skelleton I mean hit die range, movement types, spell-like abilities and undead qualities. Aside from adding in alter self and polymorph self everything will be custom.

It's been a long time since I posted here but I finally remembered to just that. I'm taking artkid's advice and I'm using the 3.5 nightwalker as a template for Exalted style Deathlords. To give a better idea of what they're like, think along the lines of suped up Nazgul mixed with a spectral version of the Ten Who Were Taken. Here's one of them, The Lover Clad With Raiment of Tears. I'm even working on a Mask of Winters write-up, albeit using some 3.5isms, mostly psionics to replicate some of his ghostly powers.
