Morgan cocks an eye at the mention of Dick Rentsch and Dala. "How did you come to fall in his company," he asks the sailor.

DM: What else does Morgan know about these two?

Dick Rentsch is an experienced fighter and the hostler of The Waterside Hostel. Morgan suspects him to have links to the Temple, but has no proof. Dala is a serving wench and a likely thief there: Morgan is almost certain that she and Rentsch are lovers. Again no proof. The Waterside Hostel, as you may recall, is where Morgan met up with the party (here: viewtopic.php?f=77&t=3007&start=50#p55029) and is a scurvy place. Think hive of scum and villainy.

The sailor tells a tale of arriving in Nulb aboard a shipping vessel that stopped in Nulb. While goods were taken off the ship and new ones put on, he and his fellow sailors went to the Hostel for drinks and, if they were lucky, women. He took a shine to Dala and made a comment or two. She gave him a "special" drink. He remembers being drunker than he'd ever been and then waking in the room the party found him in, naked and chained to a wall. He prayed to Procan to free him until one of the ladies suggested he pray to Cuthbert, as Procan, being god of the sea, don't care much if men breathe or drown. The last two days he'd said prayers to St Cuthbert and that's when he heard the fighting and the noise outside. He insists that St Cuthbert sent you to free him.

Father Redmond explains that it is not St Cuthbert but rather mighty Zagyg that directed their group toward them.

OoC: Hive? Scum? Villainy? But do they have any Dwarven stout on tap?

Once at the tower, but away from the others... Pax draws the attention of the group, to the treasure taken from the ghouls. He will attempt to slip the ladies undergarments, used to wrap the treasures in Caydon's pocket while the rogue is distracted from the shine of the gold... Pax will not being doing this if any of the former captives have a clear view of him (hehe)-

Pax: "Should we see the ordinary folks back to their homes? Or barge in all of us together and try and mitigate some surprise on (the) Dick's face?"

The sailor ignores Fr Redmond.

Two of the men-at-arms, however, approach him. Zagyg? Our lives were dedicated to him in our youths. It has been a long time since we had the ability to pray to him in the mad way that we were instructed, as priests of Zagyg are rare in this neck of the woods. Will you lead us in a service?

One of the merchants speaks up. We were headed to Hommlet when we were waylaid. Your wizard mentioned that as a destination? We have nothing to give, but if you are able to provide escort there, we would be most appreciative.

Calthas rolls his eyes ostensibly when hearing the guards talk to Father Redmond. He focuses immediately his attention to other matters: "There is no doubt that some people in Nulb have direct dealings with this wicked place. I would rather avoid it for now, and bring these poor captives that we just freed straight to Hommlet. We can decide what is the best course of action from there."

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin smiles and rolls his eyes a bit as the two followers of Zagyg mention a service. He turns to the merchants and says "Certainly we can accompany you to Hommlet. We do not require compensation, we are simply glad you are free and alive. Could I ask you to speak briefly to some important men in Hommlet about your experience? They would be quite interested to learn of what is going on here, and your firsthand knowledge would be very invaluable. Also, if you require some basic needs or a room, I'd be happy to help you get on your way."

Yes, let's carefully head to Hommlet, locking up the tower prior to leaving. Perhaps we should set up something at the windows and doors so we could tell if someone's been inside while we are gone?

If everyone agrees, let's make tracks for Hommlet, avoiding Nulb.

"A good plan, brother," Morgan agrees. "Mum would be proud. And let's not forget," he says, "that it is Heironeous who is to thank for this rescue."

The paladin pauses in thought. "Once we get these good people to safety, then it might be time to deal with Dick Rentsch and his...wench. While the temple is an awesome evil, these two characters are an everyday evil who likewise need to be stopped. Agreed?"

"Bah, you and your battles of law and chaos. We help these people to maintain balance, so that evil will not predominate," Effric says. "To that end I am happy to assist."
