Howdy All,

Just some brief suggestions for inspirational material for CMs.

I'm working may way through both of the new Dark Osprey books - Knights Templar: a Secret History (by Graeme Davis) and The Nazi Occult (by Kenneth Hite). I'm still working through them, but both books strike me as excellent - well researched and written, and by two top rpg and related authors.

I'm finding the Knights Templar book really fascinating.

Both of these might be good reads for CMs looking to add some non-thing Evil and antagonists to their sessions or campaigns.

Update (11/3)

I finished my first read of the Templars book, and am very pleased with it. Good read.

Nightmares of Mine (also by Ken Hite) is probably the best generic sourcebook for running horror RPGs ever written.

Ken Hite also wrote GURPS Horror third and fourth editions, both of which contain great advice on running horror campaigns and adventures.

Gareth Hanrahan's chapter on running horror games in Mongoose Publishing's OGL Horror was really quite good too.

The original Ravenloft: Realm of Terror campaign setting boxed set for 2e AD&D by Bruce Nesmith and Andria Hayday had some excellent advice on running Gothic horror adventures.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but the older Pacesetter and Mayfair CHILL source material and adventures are still very useful for CRYPTWORLD, particularly:

CHILL Things (Pacesetter Edition) - dozens of new things and Evil Way Disciplines (general Powers and Unsettling Powers) ready to use with CRYPTWORLD with little modification and minimal conversion.

CHILL Companion by Ray Winninger (Mayfair Games) - the horror subgenres and scenario design chapters especially.

If anyone plans to run a CW game based on the Smithsonian's "Special Collections Division," you should check out The SCP Foundation (Secure, Contain, Protect). It's basically a collection of otherworldly artifacts straight out of The Lost Room, Warehouse 13, and Friday the 13th: The Series. Every object is another plot hook:

Friday the 13th: The Series - I remember staying up late to watch this! When Warehouse 13 came out I told my wife..."it looks like Friday the 13th: The Series...but they got a bigger building".

Just about every gamer worth their dice knows about Kenneth Hite's Suppressed Transmissions.
But you might not be aware that their is a site that collects news stories about unusual, strange, and bizarre events and locations.
Updated on a regular basis, any of these might prove to be the focus of an adventure.

Old radio shows are pulp horror gold: Suspense, Lights Out, The Hermit's Cave, Escape, The Witch's Tale, Dark Fantasy. Don't neglect The Shadow and I Love A Mystery and/or I Love Adventure! Many of these are free to listen to online.

Youtube.com (and your local discount DVD bin) abound with black-and-white gems of horror and suspense. Don't worry about a title being a B movie, or even a Z movie. I've found the cheesier the flick, the more gameable material it contains. Lousy movies make great RPG scenarios.
