wandering monsters

in the mutant lord lore in the core rulebook for mutant future , wilderness movement is determined in days, and wandering monsters are checked 3-4 times a day. so a unburdened character could travel 25 miles in a day so the ML should roll for wandering monsters every 8.3 to 6.25 miles . is that right? does anyone have a simpler method ?
