Combat round 2

Initiative: party 2, hell hounds 4

Two hellhounds square off against Roikos. One bites his horse Peny's leg for 1 hp dmg. The other tries to breathe fire once again, but the cleric doges.

The prone hellhound regains his footing, just in time to stare into the loving eyes of Zelaz...

The remaining hellhound, having already crippled Joffrey's horse Zephyr, tries to bite the fully armored knight. He can't; but...

Aristide fires an arrow at one of Roikos' foes, but (d20: 1 critical fumble) accidentally shoots Sir Joffrey instead for 6 hp dmg. For a knight wearing magic armor and carrying a magic shield, that's pretty crazy. Such is the luck of the dice.

Tarana has better luck, and hits Aristide's intended target for 5 hp dmg.

Tasrem chants the words to a seductive incantation, and tries to charm one of the hellhounds. The hellhound doesn't buy it.

Zelaz, opting for the "charm 'em while they're down" tactic, manages to seduce the hellhound who just got to its feet. It lopes over to the wizard, wagging its tale and panting.

Roikos tries to bring his flail down upon the hound in front of him, but misses. Peny has no better luck.

Joffrey, enraged that common thief like Aristide could get through his armor, swings in vain at the hellhound in front of him. He misses. Zephyr fares better. One hoof hits his foe for 1 hp dmg, the other (d20: 20) for 12 hp dmg (double damage!). The hound yelps!

One hound is still dead, two are wounded, one is perfectly fine, and one is charmed.

Unhappy with the result of his first spell, Tasrem End resolves that if a hell hound cannot be charmed, then it should rather sleep.

Aristide winces at his fumble and says "Ohhh! Apologies, my good man! Let's try this again!" And Aristide will pop another arrow at the hound attacking the Knight.

Tarana will take a shot at whichever hound is in the open and the shot will not endanger her friends. If there is no such shot she will dismount, draw her sword and wade into the melee.

Clearly now annoyed with the arrow sticking from his back, Joffrey swings at the hound with greater vigour. He attempts to remove its head.

The hellhound in front of Roikos chomps into Peny's leg for 5 hp dmg. Peny kicks back for 3 hp dmg.

Joffrey's foe breathes a blast of flame at the knight. He throws his shield up in time, and takes only half damage from the attack (successful save vs. breath weapon, down to 9 hp dmg).

The second hellhound in front of Roikos tries to bite Peny, but she's too fast for him.

Aristide lets fly with another arrow, this time hitting his intended target, and not Joffrey. The hellhound takes 5 hp dmg.

Tarana buries an arrow into one of the hounds squared off against Roikos (6 hp dmg).

Tasrem utters the seductive incantations of sleep, but alas the hellhound is too powerful, and resists the spell.

Zelaz gestures with his fingers, and three magic missiles sail through the air (13 hp dmg total), finishing off Joffrey's foe.

Joffrey turns himself and his horse toward Roikos. He lunges after the wounded of the two hellhounds, dealing a nice clean slash for 6 hp dmg, but not cutting off the beast's head. Zephyr deals the coup de grace with his hoof for 4 hp dmg, crushing the hound's skull. It dies with a whimper.

Roikos swings his flail at the remaining hellhound, but he misses.

3 hellhounds are dead; 1 is charmed; 1 in perfectly good shape.

Aristide grins in satisfaction as he sees his arrow sink into the hellhound, and seeing just one left, he eases Max over to see what the things were munching on, giving the uncharmed hound a wide berth.

(BTW, Max has 19HP)
