4. Searching the Settlements

Athelstan - Fighter

Athelstan pauses briefly and says a quick prayer to Vanya for mercy on the souls of the inhabitants, and eternal torment on the goblins and their allies.

Then it's on the the next homestead.

Day 11, Lunadain, Thaumont 11th, remains of Ilyakana lumber camp, mid afternoon

After a brief midday meal, you head northwest toward Gregor's lumber camp. Creatures go about their business, and for several miles you find nothing out of the ordinary. Soon you hear the waters of the Volaga River to your left, and before long you come to the Ilyakana lumber camp.

What's left of it.

A wooden palisade has been burned to the ground, along with several cabins. The prow of a boat sticks up out of the water about thirty yards upstream of a short beach. Corpses lie scattered about the clearing, both human and goblin.

Suddenly, between the remains of two of the cabins, you see a man. He's carrying a battle axe, wandering about in no discernible pattern, and appears to be talking to himself.

Gregor's raises his eyebrows. "It's Kalanos!" he exclaims. "He's still here."

Actions?

Renardius (Cleric)

"Kalanos!" Renardius hails the man, "Is there not anyone else left besides yourself?" He watches the man's reaction carefully...

Athelstan - FIghter

Athelstan, seeing good ol' Kalanos hefting his axe and speaking to himself says "On guard, friends. He may not be himself, if you know what I mean."

Athelstan will dismount, cautiously standing between the party and Kalanos. If he exhibits any violent or strange behavior, he'll draw Chrysomer and warn him to stay back. If he attacks, Athelstan will try to subdue him, or kill him - but he'll swing to kill absolutely ONLY as a last resort.

Hopefully he's just acting silly.

Soldath - Mage

Ay, Kalanos! It's good to see an old face. Soldath will stay mounted and keep a sharp eye out all around.

[tumblingdice]

Kalanos, hearing your greeting, turns his head to face you. He's silent for a moment, then screams. "Back!" he shouts. "Stay back."

With that, he bolts for the woods, stopping to swing his axe at a tree. "Retreat!" He cries, holding aloft his weapon. Then, leading a charge of one, he crashes into the undergrowth.

Tret, rogue

Follow! Tret follows Kalanos into the forest.

Athelstan says "Be careful, I don't think he'd have a problem swinging at one of us, by the looks of him." And he'll follow Tret, shaking his head, muttering "Goblins... death, deranged boatmen... when will this end?"

Renardius (Cleric)

Renardius figures that wearing plate armour he doesn't have much chance to catch up to Kalanos, and so pauses to investigate the ruins instead.

Spurs her mount forward to give pursuit as well... maybe they'll need a sleep spell for this poor sap.
