I'm not sure I'm seeing the map correctly on my computer screen. Is that a circular lake or pond (near the top) with some kind of fortification standing in it?

Well, I can't really comment, and this map is quite corroded, but it appears that may be correct. You are in search of Castle Krake and the remnants of the town of Krakesborough if anything is left. The entirety of the Krake swamp is due west of your current position, but you don't know your current position and how it may relate to this map you found on a corpse wearing old chain armour and apparently weilding a magical blade

Balfa isn't interested in it. But If any PC wants to grab it, let's do it and then depart. My player instinct tells me it's not evil, but it would be nice to be sure.

Yes, someone should take the weapon, I think. Preferably a martial class.

Egbert will grab it - may not use it straight away, but he's happy to carry it until a more diplomatic method is determined for the sword's fate.
