Tasrem casts Web at the dark foggy creature, hoping it will entangle it long enough for the group to be able to subjugate it.

Joffrey

Joffrey dsmounts 50 feet from the man, then engages the creature on foot.

"What foul sorcery is this?" he half says to himself and half to the man

Combat round 1

Initiative: enemy 4, party 2

The dark cloud presses its attack while the party races to the rescue, splashing throuh the shallows of the ford.

The creature lashes out with its two claws at the lone man in plate mail, but misses his mark. The man swings his mace in retaliation, but hits nothing. Recovering from his failed blow, he looks up to see some of you racing toward him.

"Help! Help!" he cries. "I come bearing a message. A message from the gods!"

The dark cloud's claws shift, suggesting the creature is turning to "face" you. "Stay back, helpless beings" it hisses. "This one is pledged to me."

Roikos, Taranna and Joffrey thunder toward the melee. Aristide dismounts, as does Joffrey. The creature appears to ignore Aristide's challenge, and Joffrey's question.

Zelaz, still in the saddle, murmurs in the ancient, seductive language of the arcane arts. He'll be able to fly next round.

Tasrem would not be close enough for his web spell to entrap the creature. Since he is an experienced mage, I will assume that he closes the required distance first. He can cast his spell next round.

Roikos, the only character in melee range--this round--swings his flail into the darkness, but he misses.

Aristide 44/44
--Max 19/19
Tasrem 14/15
Sir Joffrey 46/51
--Zephyr 15/19
Roikos 50/50
--Peny 14/16

Well, that wasn't very exciting, was it? When the casting of a spell takes a complete round, and the closing of great distances takes time, some rounds are better than others. Next round will be better. Actions?

ROIKOS: Cleric

In a fraction of a second, the Cleric's mind is flooded with thoughts while grimacing at his amateur attack on such a shadow. Roikos begins to second guess himself having only read stories of creatures such as this one. Is it too powerful? If so, why would it bid us to stay back? It is clearly evil, so there is no honor in sparing our lives.

It doesn't matter! His grimace contorts to intimidating determination. His mind races in the proper direction... If I leave any good being to the likes of this, then I am no better, and have no right to draw breath, or see the light of day.

His resolve hardens as he pulls forth his Holy Symbol to turn the creature, "Back to the depths with you! THE DEPTHS is the only pledge you claim this day!"

OOC: If the 'Turn' attempt fails his next action will be to cast Flame Strike!

Aristide - Thief

Seeing the shadowy creature fail to respond to his threat, Aristide winces and curses under his breath. He pauses for a moment, and then mumbles to himself "Oh what the hell, you only live once..." and he charges toward the creature, sword in hand naively shouting "Defend yourself, foul creature, your end is at hand, compliments of the house of Vicente!" And he charges to swing at the thing.

OOC: Oh well. Not much I can do other than foolishly attack. This should be good.

Zelaz uses his Ring of Telekinesis to clear the lone man away, yanking him fro the cloud and towards the rest of the party while yelling at the others to Strike at the cloud from a distance!

Joffrey

The fighter's blood is up again so he has to stay in melee. He feints then darts in to strike.

Tasrem pursues his current course of action. "A message from the gods? Ah! that's what they always say, don't they?" he murmurs to himself while closing by.

Combat round 2

Initiative: enemy 6, party 3

The billowing darkness returns its attention, and claws, to the lone figure in plate mail. One claw rakes across his face. The man screams. He tries to retaliate, but his pain is too great. His anguish turns to astonishment as Zelaz wills him out of harm's way with his Telekinesis spell.

Roikos charges in, holding aloft his holy symbol, hoping to return the infernal creature to the depths. No luck. The shadow hisses. "Your gods hold no power over me. Fall to your prayers!" We'll see what it says when Roikos comes back with a flame strike next round.

Tasrem mutters a few words, and a bolt of white light shoots from his fingers. As it travels toward the cloud, it spreads into a fine web that surrounds the creature. "Fools!" the cloud shrieks. "Do you know who you're dealing with?"

The real question is who he's dealing with. Aristide plunges his sword through the web into the entrapped cloud for 6 hp dmg.

Taranna, taking her bastard sword in both hands, plunges her blade through the web for another 6 hp dmg.

Sir Joffrey, not to be outdone, likewise strikes for 6 hp dmg. How even and synchronized!

Aristide 44/44
--Max 19/19
Tasrem 14/15
Sir Joffrey 46/51
--Zephyr 15/19
Roikos 50/50
--Peny 14/16

Actions? Let's see how long that web holds. Please deduct any spells used.
