Level 1 Monster Stocking Tables (Now legible!)

Postby shart2069 » Wed Sep 05, 2012 4:21 pm

EDIT: just gave up on formatting and retyped by hand...

A few months back I made up some tables to help me randomly stock the first level of a dungeon with monsters, using the Habitat Density idea from the AEC. Also included encounters with NPC parties or individuals.

Possibly better suited to larger levels or a megadungeon?

Re: Level 1 Monster Stocking Tables I made

OK in rolling up 11 room encounters I ended up with about this (file is on my other computer and too tired to lug out laptop and boot it up just for this one thing):

1) A 4th level Chaotic Halfling, who is Exploring despite Serious Wounds;

2) 10 Stirges;

3) 12 Giant Rats;

4) 4 Giant Killer Bees;

5) 1 Giant Shrew;

6) 6 Goblins;

7) 1 Leprechaun;

8) 1 Zombie;

9) 12 Kobolds;

10) 1 Giant Crab Spider;

11) Skeletons (I think it might have been 10?)

(So now I have to come up some hints why they are in the extensive cellars under the old castle... Maybe the Leprechaun is playing some tricks on the Goblins & Kobolds? Maybe the Halfling has been injured from some traps? Maybe the Giant Shrew and the Crab Spider are trying to make a meal of each other? Meanwhile a lone Zombie stands guarding some forgotten room, while a group of Skeletons waits for their long-dead master to return.)

(Oddly enough, I ended up with 2 RARE encounters and ZERO SPARSE encounters.)

.. and only 11 months later I make it into a PDF and post it on my blog.

(Use the link above the images for PDF; I had to turn it into images to get it to display in a blog post.)
