The Den of the Ogre Brothers (Contest Entry)

A caravan bringing goods for the local merchants as was ambushed by a pair of Ogres. One of the survivors from the caravan bravely followed the Ogres to their lair before reporting to town. As a result of this attack the village leader and merchants held a meeting and decided to offer a reward of 350 gold for each of the two Ogre heads. The lair lies fifteen miles outside of town not far off the northeastern road.

This adventure is for a relatively low level party of 4 to 6 characters Levels 1 – 3 and can probably be completed in a single session. I have purposely left many details out so that this adventure can be dropped into any campaign or be used as a stand-alone one shot dungeon crawl. While designed for Labyrinth Lord, this adventure can be easily adapted to any old school system.

Roll three wandering monster checks while traveling to and from the lair.






Suggested Wandering Monsters:

1: Dire Wolf
2: Wolf
3: Giant Killer Bee
4: Stirge
5: Harpy
6: Grizzly Bear

The lair is in a cave on the side of a hill in a clearing. Once the characters break the tree line they will see the cave approximately 180 yards away and being guarded by a Giant Draco Lizard. The lizard will not move from his spot until someone closes to within 100 ft. It will then charge to attack.

Once the lizard is dead the characters will find the entrance to the lair to be a hole in the floor with a spiral staircase leading down into the SW corner of Room 1. The staircase is wide enough for the characters to go down single file.

Long Spiral Stairwell descends from the surface to the SW corner of the Room.

East Entry: Stuck Strong Wooden Door
Room Features: The south and west walls have been engraved with incoherent spirals, A pile of rotten leather lies in the north-east corner of the room
Monster: 6 Dwarf, Duergar
Treasure: [Hidden in Wall]: 3 Gems (500 gp Total)

Room #2
North Entry: Wooden Portcullis
West Entry #1: Unlocked Simple Wooden Door
West Entry #2: Locked Strong Wooden Door (common lock)
South Entry: Secret Trapped and Stuck Strong Wooden Door Poison Needle
Room Features: A foul odor fills the south side of the room.
Monster: Ogre
Treasure: Brass Key

Room #3
West Entry: Secret Unlocked Simple Wooden Door
East Entry: Unlocked Strong Wooden Door
Room Features: The smell of smoke fills the room, Several pieces of rotten rope are scattered throughout the room, pile of straw in SW Corner.
Monster: 8 Giant Rats
Treasure: 6 Gems worth a total of 30 gp each in the pile of straw.

North Entry: Trapped and Locked Strong Wooden Door - Spiked Pit Trap
West Entry: Wooden Portcullis
Room Features: A stone sarcophagus sits in the south side of the room, A Long locked Iron Box lies next to the sarcophagus, A pile of trash lies in the west side of the room
Monster: 1 Giant Crab Spider
Treasure: Staff of Healing [in long box]

Room #5
North Entry: Unlocked Iron Door
South Entry: Trapped and Stuck Simple Wooden Door Ghoul Touch Trap
Room Features: A stone stair ascends towards a dias along the west wall, Unintelligible whispering fills the room.
Monster: Ogre - Steel Key
Treasure : [Iron Trunk two locks Brass and Steel use Steel key first or trap goes off unless detected and disarmed.] Gold - 250 pieces, +1 Short Sword, Ring of Spell Holding, Mess Kit of Plenty (or GM's choice)
Trap: Fireball Destroys chest and contents Deals 6d6 damage Save Vs Spells for 1/2

http://donjon.bin.sh/ to get the basic layout and then The Gimp to edit the rooms and passageways.
