Mini Six Is Now In Print

Postby The Venomous Pao » Fri Dec 17, 2010 5:42 am

Just sharing this post from the old boards because I think Mini Six deserves the press :)

harmyn wrote:Mini Six Bare Bones Edition has just been released in print. It is available through our website and is priced at $8 with free shipping. Unfortunately we cannot ship outside the US, it would be too cost prohibitive. We will be offering a POD version for anyone overseas.

You can find it here = http://www.antipaladingames.com/minisix.html

There's a bunch more on Mini Six at the old forums site, but I'm not going to try to copy it all over. Mostly I just wanted to be sure we didn't lose sight of this fabulous little game.

I just downloaded it and gave it a quick look. It reminds me a lot of GURPS 3rd Edition. I guess that's the game it's emulating? I bought a bunch of GURPS stuff over the years, but mostly as "idea mines." I've never actually played the game itself. This makes me want ti give it a try!

I think it's a lite version of WEG's D6 system (you know, the old Star Wars RPG).

Sakthros is right, it's a stripped down version of the D6 system, which was made open a little while back. I personally never played any D6 games - dice pool games generally don't interest me - but there's just something so delightfully simple and compact about Mini Six that I'm itching to give it a go.

GURPS, on the other hand, I played far too much of back in the 90s. Ultimately it just got too complex for my tastes. I am, and always will be, sold on its daddy, The Fantasy Trip, though. There are a few good attempts at retroclones for TFT out there that are worth a look if you've not explored that game (Dark City Games' Legend of the Ancient World, et. al. is the best place to start).

But enough, I'm derailing my own thread :)

Mini Six is tasty (and nicely hackable) and should be given a shot. I hope to do so soon. Anyone else given it a go and have things to report?

I've quite enjoyed it and had some good experiences with it... But I might be biased. ;)

I've run a fantasy game, a gritty low-powered supers game (I came up with some additional stuff still in rough draft for this effect), a Battlestar Galactica inspired game, and a modern pulp game with it. All sorts of fun. And going to be running so much more given time.

We definitely need to see the supers material, man! I've got a supers itch I need to scratch and I feel like Mini Six is the system to do it. I'd consider grabbing the D6 Powers book to try to work with, but dang that thing is still quite expensive in PDF. I had also wondered if the power system from Simon Washbourne's Supers! would work with Mini Six, but I've been too cheap even to drop the $4 on that PDF. I guess this unemployment thing is cramping my style.

So hook us up, daddio. And regale us with tales of your other games, too.

Um, I'm not sure what the "Soak" stat means. Is this similar to Armor Class, thus giving a number that has to be "beaten" before you start dealing damage?

(Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I've always been a D&D geek when it comes to actually playing the game.)

You pretty much nailed it. If an attack successfully hits the target the attacker rolls their damage. If the damage is less than the target's static soak no damage is dealt. If the damage roll is 1-3 greater then the target is considered stunned. If the damage roll is 4-8 greater then the target is considered Wounded. 9-12 = Incapacitated. 13-15 = Mortally wounded, and if the damage roll exceeds the target's static soak by 16 or more they are considered dead.

I hope this clears it up a bit for you.

As for the supers, I liked how we did it, but it definitely needs a lot more polish to make it presentable. I am done with school though for the next few weeks and while work is on OT (darn those day jobs) I will try and see what I can come up with to show you.

harmyn, Just wanted to say you guys did an awesome job with this game. I am currently running a play by post western using mini six. Our only use of the rules so far was to determine who won a horse race into town. Looser bought the drinks. Good stuff!

Bummer, I wrote something, but the Internets ate it. :-/
Anyways, does anyone know where I could join a Play by Post game using the MiniD6 rules to see if I like it? Genre isn't important, just somewhere where I can get a feel for the game.
