They also were CE in 1st edition. There were only 12 also. Fiend Folio page 23 1979

Son of a gun! I thought they were Lawful Evil. My mistake. Sorry, gentlemen.

Easy mistake. CE is direct opposite of LG. A paladin of LE would be great. Dragon magazine had an article with a paladin for every alignment.

Yes. Sadly, I remember the names, if not the spellings. An LE paladin was called an illrigger.

Yes, that's it! Another old-timer. ;) I like the idea of an evil knight/paladin , but he still has a (twisted) code of honor.

I got the new Monster Manual. Its a nice book. I like the way the monsters are set up, art is decent. A very nice version of the Monster Manual. I would have liked the Demon Lords in the book, but maybe in the future.
Unfortunately the more I see about 5th, the less I like. It seems to me that monsters have just been buffed in hit points. Damage spells got a boost in power, but spells that don't do direct damage got much weaker. Charm Person, Polymorph, etc are limited in duration to mere minutes or concentration. Monster Summoning spells are gone entirely- whats the point of a Conjurer then? Spell school/specialist Mages are there- but some schools are severely lacking. Necromancer sucks. Animate Dead is weak. He gets a HP bonus if he kills with a necromancy spell, (less with other spells)but there are very few necromancy spells.

Hmmm. That's not encouraging. I hadn't seen your post before, BA. I was just coming back here to confess that I'm having total DM's Guide lust after reading the reviews. Have you had a chance to play the new edition at all? I'm tempted to run Lost Mine of Phandelver with a group of open-minded grognards to see how it goes.

Same here. I've printed out the basic rules (right before they revised them, of course!) and have to content myself with those for the time being. I'm trying to collate them with the free online supplements from the two modules they've released, hoping to put together as many spells and monsters as I can. :)

Some things I like, some I don't. I guess I'll have to actually play to make a real decision. Im kind of busy at the moment anyway, so its on the back burner. Im more into LL since Moldvay was always one of my favorites. Im doing a quick RotWorld PBP game now, so its all I have time for. I still want the DMG though. :D
