Day 9, Loshdain, Thaumont 9th, Dymrak Forest, afternoon, Combat Round 1

You follow the trail of the goblins into the woods. After about 200 yards, you bring your horses to a halt as you take in the scene before you.

It seems you were not the only ones out to catch the horse-thieves, for in the muddy clearing before you the goblins have been attacked and massacred. The stripped and bloody bodies of a score of goblins lie mixed with the torn carcasses of horses, and the obese corpse of tall goblin hangs by his feet from a tree. But even now, the goblins have no peace. Six large beetles are feasting on the remains. Without a moment's hesitation, they scuttle towards you... It looks as if they prefer live meat to dead!

Note: I placed your characters in their positions based on the marching order you gave me before the party reached Sukiskyn last night. All the horses that aren't yours are dead. Several are in multiple pieces.

Question: would it be possible to just blaze past these things? Do we see tracks leading away for the horses not accounted for? If possible Athelstan will try to spur on his mount and leave these things behind us.

You see goblin tracks leading away to the southwest, but no hoof prints. There may be more evidence to the southeast, but you can't be sure from here. Provided your horses can run faster than the beetles, you may be able to blaze past this.

Athelstan will dismount and draw his sword, and try to take up a position where he can't be surrounded by the beetles. "let's lob some missiles at these things" he'll urge his comrades.... "we need to get through here quickly!"
