This passage shows disuse; it is dusty, dirty, and filled with cobwebs. However, someone wearing boots has made use of the place with fair frequency, as shown by occasional tracks. Three iron doors line the west wall, each with great hinges set to bear the weight of such portals. Each also has a small iron hatch. An old gray blanket hangs on the east wall.

CALMERT: Cleric
Whispers, to no one in particular, "Iron doors? How strange. Are these prisoner cells, perhaps?" as he tightens his grip on his mace & shield.

The hatch on each door can slide to the right, it seems.

Behind the blanket is a small alcove with a cot, small table, chair, lantern, 12 flasks of oil, a barrel, foodstuffs, some old clothing on pegs in the wall, an iron chest, and a heap of glittering equipment. The chest is secured by a large padlock.

Thurwin says "Those bugbears did make a comment about our little band being escaped prisoners, so cells here make some sense." Thurwin watches Effric's actions and says quietly "Be careful around that stuff. Make sure it isn't trapped." He keeps a close eye on the glittering items.

Effric shakes his head to clear it, he feels as if he is in two places at once.

"Caydon, do make yourself useful and attend to that lock?" Effric says as he points to the chest. Meanwhile, he'll take a few flasks of oil and poke through the pile of equipment with his staff.

Caydon - Rogue
Caydon inspects the lock for traps. As always he proceeds to pick the lock only if it seems safe. If a trap is detected, he will disarm it. If all else fails he will "go to town" on the problem with his crowbar.

Caydon attends the lock. Thief skill [1d100] = 56 Finding no traps he attempts to pick it. Thief skill [1d100] = 24 With some work the lock pops open. The heavy lid is lifted and, within, are 411 cp, 151 sp, 90 ep, 55 gp, 27 pp, and a small wooden box. The thief examines the box Thief skill [1d100] = 40 and opens it after declaring it trap-free. Within are two potions in stoppered bottles.

Effric pokes through the pile. It appears to be someone's equipment: an apparently full backpack, chainmail, shield, and a few axes, one of which has runes on its head.

Morgan slides the hatches open, revealing spy holes. Each cell is 10' square, with closely set stone blocks in wall and floor; the ceiling is actually hewn from living rock. Straw litters the floor, and chains hang from the walls. A small drain is in the center of the floor.

Two of the cells (a & c) have three occupants huddled in the straw and not moving much. The center cell (b) has a near-naked dwarf, fresh welts on his flesh over old scars. He does not look conscious.
