Mutant Epoch- good ideas- great art!

Postby Blood axe » Fri Apr 08, 2011 6:01 pm

I just received my Mutant Epoch book from LULU. It only took 6 days from order to my doorstep.

http://www.outlandarts.com/mutantepoch.htm

The art is really good & there is lots of it. Some pics are kinda small though.

Characters are very detailed. There are 8 traits/stats. Creating a character can take about 15-30 minutes- you need to roll alot of dice 30-40 rolls.

You can be:

Pure Human- dont really see any advantage to do so though. Its really kind of a disadvantage.

Bioreplica- organic engineered flesh constructs- perfrect men.

Clone - copies of real people from the past. (Arnold anyone?)

Trans-humans - genetically screened humans

Cyborg - chainsaw arm!

Ghost mutant - looks like a normal person, no physical mutations

Mutant - mild, typical, severe, or FREAKISH HORROR! By how many/how badly mutated.

Beastial human - half human, half animal (or reptile or Bug!)

----------------

I was dissapointed. No Plants or Robots.

Your starting caste/ background career determines beginning skills & equipment.
Farmer, former slave, hunter, militia, thief, raider, lots more.

Lots of skills & mutations.

-------------------

Im gonna go through the combat system and other things and post further.

I hope to get my copy any day now. I've been looking forward to this one for a bit. The author was kind enough to add in the bestial human type per my suggestion.

I really would have liked to see the Green Folk ( plants!) and even robot characters. Maybe a future book.

I know he has alot of future material planned for the game, hopefully plants and robots are down the road, I don't know for sure, but I do know he originally planned to have the Bestial humans in a later supplement.

How does the combat work? I'm hoping my book arrives today!

I havent done any combat. I read through the book and rolled a few characters. That takes a bit- about 40+ dice rolls. I dont see why anyone would want to play a Pure Human. Unlike Gamma World- they dont seem to get any significant advantages. In GW - pure humans get some nice bonuses to stats. In Mutant Epoch they seem to be at a big disadvantage.
I have to read through the book further & figure things out.

-----------------
Its a good thing the Beastial Humans were added IMHO.
Humans, Bioreplicas, Clones, Transhumans (and even Cyborgs a bit) are too similar. I want to play a variety of creatures- not characters that all look human.

Im used to Gamma World & Mutant Future- I sure wish mutant plants would have been included.

I'm curious how hard it would be to use with Mutant Future or vice versa?
