I always thought that D&D MUs were allowed to use the quarterstaff, dagger sling and maybe darts. At least that is how I ran in the past. (Thank you Geoffrey McKinney for showing me a better way!)

I always found if funny with how Magic-Users are unable to use larger weapons or armor. Yeah, I understand that they are out-of-shape scholars -- it would be like bring a Scientist on a Commando raid, if you think about it. And yeah, I get that "armor interferes with spellcasting". But why not swords? After all, this guy sports one:

No what! As a Wizard, he can conjure up a better weapon:

"Now this is what I call a 'slug-thrower'!" *click-clack* 8-)

Different worlds/games, different rules. In MERP- a Mage can use a sword, but it costs more points for him to buy skill in that weapon, & less points to learn spells. The opposite for a Warrior. Not so smart for a Wizard to use a sword.(Less strength, skill, armor & HP)
To defend: This is the Pact.
But when life loses its value,
and is taken for naught -
then the Pact is to Avenge.
