Athelstan points toward the ruins and says "I think we should find a secure place for our mounts and sneak up to recon this place before we enter. If our attackers came from here, they have likely returned to warn the others. If we keep an eye on the place for a few hours, maybe we can gain some tactical advantage."

OOC: Just an idea. We try to sneak in to find a covered vantage point and see who or what is in this place, and what their movements are. Then we can take action.
