The Thing

Postby Blood axe » Sun May 18, 2014 6:12 am

I had an idea that a game based on this movie would work well for PBP, but not in person. In person, other players could see if something is up. (notes being passed, failed dice roll, etc). In PBP, a private message is passed and no one is the wiser.

Hmmmm....I'll have to think about this a bit.

If you don't know which movie Ive referred to, John Carpenter's The Thing (and prequel).

If you are familiar with d20 Modern, here is a free game supplement (based mostly on the 1982 movie I think).

Should at least have some ideas you can use.

Thanks KIpper! Ive heard about this , but hadn't located it yet. I appreciate the assist. :D

It may not appeal to everyone, but it would probably be a fun game. Lots of distrust, paranoia, violence & gore.

Maybe CryptWorld rules would work for this. Ive only skimmed over them, but I have played a little Pacesetter before.

This sounds like a great idea BloodAxe. I just don't know how easy/hard it would be to create the same suspense that was present in the movie. I've tried to run a campaign before that was based roughly on the movie Alien (not Aliens, no significant weapons). Since the players knew in advance that was the basis it ruined the feel up front, they already knew the danger. IMHO it would be best to start a campaign in a somewhat benign direction and have it evolve into the horror situation without disclosure. 2 cents.

Red Eye for Cryptworld has the same idea & suspense. I appreciate the advice. I'll have to leave the game idea open a bit more so its more of a surprise. Thanks.
