[Idea from Exalted] Primordials and their component souls.

Postby Agrippa » Tue Sep 04, 2012 8:41 pm

If anyone is curious I'm in essence attempting to port an idea from Exalted into LL/BECMI. Basically I want to transplant primordials and their components souls into the game. If anyone is particularlly good at flavor for cosmic/demonic creatures please say so. Also give an honest critque of this bit of homebrew, I'd like to know what you think about it. I'm using this as a layout for primordials and the component souls.

Since the earliest civilizations there have been tales of great titans and giants, the precursors of the gods themselves. Some stories even claim that these titans sired the gods. In a way that's true, for these great primordials crafted the gods from their own cosmic essence, perhaps as slaves or simply for the delight of creating them. Either way their time has long since gone, either by war led by the gods and their once mortal champions or simply because the primordials steped aside for gods and man.

Often times monstrous in appearance primordials are almost utterly inhuman in form. There are even primordials in the form of conflagrations, whirlwinds and other forces of nature. There are even stories of a primordials whose true form is that of an inverted crystaline silver forrest that floats in the aether of its cosmic realm. And from these primordials spring forth a multitude of of lesser beings, the three soul circles. The two higher circles are extensions of these elder gods, with the lowest being seperate entities created by the second circle. Whatever their intentions, benign or malevolent, primordials are ancient and immortal beings of great cosmic power. However they are immortal in one sense only, they cannot die of old age.

Descending Hierarchy of Primordial Souls

Third Circle
The equivalent of archdemons/devils. May differ in alignment from main primordial. Includes the fetch soul, or core of the primordial's mind.

Second Circle
The equivalent of dukes of Hell and demon lords. May differ in alignment from main primordial.

First Circle
Equivalent to rank and file demons. May differ in alignment from main primordial.

Third Circle Souls

Third Circle Souls are the greatest extentions of the primordials and among their favored means of dealing with the larger cosmos.

Third Circle Soul Creation Rules

  • Third Circle Souls have one augmented mutation per every two mutations.
  • If giving the Third Circle Soul ability scores roll 7d6, dropping the lowest of course, six times and arrange to taste.
  • As befitting their supernal might and glory all Third Circle Souls have between 22 and 44 hit dice and any where from 12,332,000 up to 16,832,000 experience points worth of class levels.
  • Third Circle Souls die after a number of negative hit points equal to their Constitution score x (1+1d6).
  • Being the demigod appendage of these great cosmic titans Third Circle Souls possess maximum hit points and may reroll one attack per round. They also have up to 18 hit dice from class levels, as opposed to the usual 9 or 10. Lastly double all hit points gained after 18th level, if any.
  • Last but not least, as a result of their near titanic nature, Third Circle Souls only suffer a fifth normal damage from non-seige weapons or attacking one of its weak spots.

Second Circle Souls

Quickly following the Third Circle Souls in power are the Souls of the Second Circle.

Second Circle Soul Creation Rules

  • Second Circle Souls have one augmented mutation per every four mutations.
  • If giving the Second Circle Soul ability scores roll 5d6, dropping the lowest of course, six times and arrange to taste.
  • As befitting their herculerian might and prowess all Second Circle Souls have between 12 and 18 hit dice and any where from 1,332,000 up to 4,832,000 experience points worth of class levels.
  • Second Circle Souls die after a number of negative hit points equal to their Constitution score x (1+1d3).
  • Being the demigod appendage of Third Circle Souls, Second Circle Souls possess maximum hit points and may reroll one attack per turn (12 rounds).

I know that this project isn't anywhere near done but I'm opening it up to discussion and ideas right now. A sounding board is just what this project needs.

I get it, i'm just not sure what to add...

Would these fragmented souls have telepathic communication with each other, perhaps even when unwanted? For instance you could have a plot hook of one soul wanting to break from the others, and another hiring the heroes to capture it because if it succeeds the whole lot could break apart, killing the Primordial that spawned them.

So you're saying that the party has to do deal with a suicidal Second and Third Soul? Because that's basically what killing your Primodial is. Second and Third Circle Souls or Demons/Devas have free will to disobey and even rebel against their Primordials and can conceal their thoughts from the rest of their soul hierarchy/pantheon. Yet their existances are still bound to their Primordial. This isn't true for the First Circle Souls/Demons/Devas fortunately for them. Though there is an official way around that for Third and Second Circle Souls.

That could come up pretty easily, especially at higher levels. You could kill it, threaten it into being a good little Second or Third Soul or help sever its bond with its Primordial thus granting it a truly free existence. Also here are a few sample demons to give you an idea of what First Circle Souls could be like. Aalu, the Cannibal Bureaucrats and the Neomah, or makers of flesh.
