Spanningtree, a sleep spell will affect 2d8 HD of creatures as long as they're 4+1 HD or less, and if the creature is 4+1 HD, then it will affect only one creature. A dire wolf is a 4+1 HD creature. Can I assume that Soldath will target the goblin riders and not the dire wolves?

I did not know that. With that info Soldath will not cast the spell and instead high tail it through the gate!

Igli nods at Athelstan and helps with the rear guard. He does move to the gates, though reluctantly, calculating if he can take any enemies down and still get in the gates to kill more at a later time.

Igli, your calculations tell you that stopping to engage the enemy will prevent you from making it into the homestead. Your calculations also tell you that the homestead is surrounded on all sides, and that there will be plenty of opportunities to kill more goblins.

Because you've all indicated a willingness to hustle, we'll move to the next round.

Day 8, Nytdain, Thaumont 8th, Dymrak Forest, Sukiskyn Homestead, Combat Round 3

With the goblin ambushers either asleep or dead, the rest of you hurry across the bridge towards the homestead. Soldath considers a sleep spell, but after sizing up the dire wolves, decides against it.

As you hurry through the gateway into the smoke-filled yard beyond, spears, hurled by the mounted goblins, thud into the timbers behind you. To your surprise, the gate is held open by a young woman, who quickly shuts and bars it once you are all through.

Note: the thin black line heading north to south through the yard is simply a page break in the module. It's not actually there.

For a moment your are safe, but the flames from the nearby barn are already starting to spread to the wooden tower above the gate, and beyond the barn, a group of scarlet-clad goblins has broken through the palisade and is rushing towards you. Some fall to missiles fired from the main building, but the rest press on regardless. Unmoved, the woman waits until a man wearing leather armor makes his way down the ladder from the smoke-filled tower. Then the couple make a dash for the main buildings. "Quick! Follow us!" the man says.

Actions?

Athelstan - Fighter

"Head for cover - we'll bring up the rear!" (assuming that Renardius and Igli will probably assist, and possibly get in one last lick on the nasty goblins)

Athelstan will move toward the main building, but veer off slightly to place himself between the rest of the party and the approaching goblins, then he'll shout at them "BREE YARK!" (just kidding...)

"Come here, foul ones!" as he swings his 2-h sword back and forth. If he can get a chop in, he does, but once the main body is safe inside, he'll head in too.

Igli does join the rear-guard in making more of a fighting retreat for the rest to get to safety. "Great day!" he says joyously to Athelstan hoping for more action.

((OOC: Sorry I wasn't on yesterday, it was my son's birthday))

Renardius (Cleric)

Renardius holds the rear with Athelstan and Igli. If he has time before the Goblins engage, he will cast Bless upon himself and as many of his allies as he may (perhaps including the woman and man?).
