Same thing, same company, but they are treated differently when it comes to metal rankings.

I believe they basically merged a few years ago, they're basically just different brands at this point, if I understand correctly.

When you see a copper or silver etc. on a product page it only reflects sales at one or the other site.

Yes, James was bought out by Steve several years back, changing the landscape of the PDF market substantially.

Doesn't DriveThruRPG charge a small fee when purchasing a product? I'm sure that happened to me once and is why I only shop on RPGNow.

Any fees charged are charged against the seller, not the consumer.

I definitely got charged a small fee by one of these guys. It was a cheap pdf, couple of buck, and I got slugged a 50 cent fee on top by the website, not the publisher. I'm pretty sure it was DriveThru, but perhaps it was a third one....ah-ha, I reckon it must've been YourGamesNow...yep, they'd be the buggers.

After all that, for some reason I find RPGNow easier to use than DriveThru. Which one gives the publisher a better deal or are they both the same?

I always buy from and link RPGNOW, when it comes to OBS. I found RPGNOW first. I've bought a few things from Your Games Now and never noticed a surcharge. From what I understand, YGN does give publishers a better deal.
