Any good "Brawling" rules around?

Postby Blood axe » Sun May 15, 2011 3:53 pm

Im looking for some detailed "brawling rules"- punches, kicks, grappling, dirty fighting. Some neat ideas are in I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden city and Dragon #83, along with a reprint in Dragon Annual 4. I also found some rules in Unearthed Arcana. Im looking for a little detail & "flavor". Im looking to throw simple rules system together for a one-off game. (guess which??!! ;) ) Characters will be normal humans and low level. (1-3)

Martial arts will play a very small part. (perhaps a bonus or two)

Im planning several - one on one- brawls.

Any good leads?

If my limited knowledge is correct, Chainmail had jousting rules that were diceless, and the player choices decided the outcome. Maybe you could put something similar together?

Edit: I made some rules up in 15 minutes, maybe they will be of some use to you. :)

Something along the lines of:

3 attack options:
  • punch: face or body
  • kick: body or legs
  • grab: neck, weapon(arm) or body

Blocking:
  • face (neck)
  • body
  • legs

Combat works as:
The defender is told the attackers intention (punch, kick, grab) but not the target. He then has to choose a blocking position. If successful, nothing happens. If not, damage is dealt, or...

Grabbing works as:
first successful hit forces the opponent into an opposed roll (of strength for example) in the next round. If the defender is successful, he is let go, otherwise the attacker:
  • deals lots of non-fatal damage (neck)
  • gets the defender's weapon (weapon)
  • gets the defender into a hold, paralysing them (of no weapon or body target)

If the opponent is in a hold, he can do nothing but resist (opposed strength check), and roll for morale at appropriate times. (With adjustments due to more dangerous/fearful situation.)
