Athelstan - Fighter

Athelstan shakes his head and says dourly, "This is gonna hurt." And he follows the others, keeping a watchful eye up high for potential archers or ambushers.

You lead your horses at a slow trot up the middle path. As you near the ruins, there is a bestial screech from an area of boulders to your right, and a troop of brightly-colored apes break cover and rush toward you, hurling stones as they approach. One hits Soldath on the shoulder (1 hp dmg).

The baboons had one surprise round. We'll roll for initiative next round. Actions?

Soldath 9/10 as human, 24/24 as werewolf
Athelstan 22/25
Tret Renegats 18/18
Harn Hammerhand 26/30
Meringered 7/9
Tethir 9/12
Anja 18/22
Jörg 20/25

Tret, rogue

Soldath, get that monkey off your back! Tret will engage the nearest simian, firing an arrow at its intelligent eyes.

Athelstan - Fighter

Athelstan curses and charges with Chrysomer toward the approaching apes "First it was filthy horse man, now it's these DAMN DIRTY APES! Come here, I've got something for you!"

OOC: Chop chop.

Old Anja (Shaman)

Anja studies the rushing apes with a sneer on her lips. ((Will hold her position and attack any which get close to her)).

Note: You're on horseback, and the baboons are a good 10 feet above you, so melee is not yet an option. I wasn't sure if the map made that clear, based on your answers so far.

OOC: Well, one thing I learned when I was in the Army was that if ambushed in a convoy, you just drove through it if possible. We are on horseback, we could bust a move and fly in to the objective using surprise to gain the upper hand.

If we stop to deal with these jokers, the commotion could alert anyone waiting for us, then again, these monkey boys could follow us too. Whatever. I'm for stopping or riding through. What's the verdict?

My vote is deal with monkeys - we may get stopped up ahead then be fighting on two fronts. Might as well neutralise the immediate threat.

Tethir shoots as many arrows as he can at the nearest ape.

Athelstan - Fighter

Athelstan will yank Bud's reins to a halt, then he'll dismount and draw Chrysomer, shouting "Stay close! And keep an eye on the flanks, eh?"

OOC: This could be a diversion too. Who knows...

"Why always all this hostility?" says Meringered to himself, while bringing up his shield and getting ready for battle. He will move closer to old Anja while the apes are closing.
