I suggest something like Warrior Mage, Fighting Wizard, Sword Mage or Arcane Warrior

War wizard for me is a wizard specialized in blasting the enemy lines. Even if it reminds me of Richard Rahl

Way back in the late 80's my world had a guild of "spellwarriors" who were human fighter/ magic-users, who had learned how to manage that from becoming worshipers of an Elven deity and living among elves.

I also had "warmages" but they were just magic-users who specialized in battle spells (esp things like Fireball, Lightning Bolt, Hallucinatory Terrain, Control Weather, etc.) and functioned as auxiliaries for the army of one of my kingdoms.

I made them up using the "Customized Classes" article from Dragon #109.

I was thinking recently that a nice benefit for such a fighter-wizard type class would be to allow a saving throw to successfully cast a spell even in a round where damage was taken. (I would only allow this benefit if the class had a suitably reduced spell list and/or spell progression rate.)

Interesting... I wouldn't have thought that a simple (real world) word like "Magus" could be IP...?

Or letting dual classed fighter/magic-users have that feature once they reach 10th-16th level in both classes. By the way I'm going to start up a thread about wizardry soon.
