Calthas leads the party by the usual route to the Temple. You enter by the usual way and stand at the first level.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin looks about and then says "Perhaps we do a quick peek to see if those Orcs made some dent on the hydra, eh? But let's be careful, we've stirred up quite a hornets nest in here."

OOC: That's my vote. See if they managed to kill or hurt the thing, if so, let's examine the area.

Calthas agrees with the wizard. He prepares his bow, as usual, and will stay behind anyone who is leading the way to the hydra...

Bror has returned to his stoic self, the memory of his captivity and torture still raw and hot in his mind. He puts on his battered helm and readies both shield and axe, his face grim as the stout dwarf takes a place in the front.

The party heads to where the hydra was last seen.

Image
(area 202)

You pass the great bronze gate, the surface of which is covered with bas relief faces of evil leering creatures, and turn to the right.

This 40' diameter area has an arched ceiling some 30 feet high. Its polished stones indicate that it was once meant for some special purpose, lost now under a litter of refuse, bones, and dung. A huge metal ring has been cemented into the center of the floor, and a heavy iron chain of about eight feet length is fastened to the ring. Attached to that chain is the corpse of a hydra, its heads all removed and the necks burned. The heads, like tailless serpents, lie scattered around the corridor.

A lone orc lies dead, his flail having been converted to a torch. He appears to have been heavily wounded in fighting and bled out. You can't be sure, all orcs look the same to you, but he could be one of the two orcs you freed from the turnkey. His corpse is entangled with a troll, whose rubbery skin looked almost melted. It is missing a hand, which lies to the side still gripping the military fork the monster held, a ruby ring on its finger.

Tavin - Monk

Tavin will draw his sword and take a closer look at the trinket the troll has on it's hand.

Bror - Fighter

Bror follows the monk and steps off to one side, readying his axe for any surprise. "Careful," he hisses between clenched teeth.
