Fighting Fantasy & Lone Wolf books.

Any of you old timers remember the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks & Lone Wolf books by Joe Dever ? Some great old school stuff. Alot of gamers started on those books. Not anything like it today that I have seen.

They both even have their own rpg now.

Love the art in all those things. I could lose hours flipping through them just to enjoy the illustrations even today. :)

Fighting Fantasy had its own rpg then, too. Two of them, in fact.

Fighting Fantasy: The Introductory Role-Playing Game

and

Advanced Fighting Fantasy, the core rules of which begin with Dungeoneer.

As much as I like the new Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2nd ed., I think I actually prefer Dungeoneer (with a couple of houserules to fix the most broken elements of course).

I love the Lone Wolf books. I have enjoyed them for 20+ years. Even during the d20 days, the Lone Wolf RPG was very well done. I'd love to see the RPG transferred over to an even easier mechanic though. The current Lone Wolf RPG just doesn't do it for me, and reminds me of a pretty bad hombrew game. *shrugs*

Last year, Joe Dever released a new world map for Magnamund (Lone Wolf). It's spectacular! I posted pics of my copies over here of you want to check it out: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/vie ... 7&start=30

The Original Lone Wolf stuff is legally available online:

The first 25 LW adventures. All 4 Gray Star books. The Magnamund Companion, as well as some software tools to keep up with things, while you play.

Never read Lone Wolf, but I had three FF books back in the day (80's): Deathtrap Dungeon, House of Horror, and Island of the Lizard King (the last was actually my brother's). I've since re-acquired those three over the past few months, plus many many more. They vary in quality, but are always fun, the sci-fi ones I seem to especially enjoy although Deathtrap Dungeon is still my all-time favourite :D.

The Fighting Fantasy books were released as iOS (iPhone and iPad) apps. However, I think the developer's rights to them expired and they were going to be pulled from the app store (or perhaps already have been).

In later years I got into Fighting Fantasy, but never liked them as much as Lone Wolf. The Lone World world was just so well developed and described within those books. The Project Aeo sight that jasmith linked is awesome, in particular in the Magnamund Companion book.

Amazon has Kindle editions of both series. Deathtrap Dungeon can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Deathtrap-Dungeon/dp/B005B1EA04/ref=pd_sim_kstore_5

These can be read on the Kindle devices (of course) as well as desktop computer, iPad, iPhone, and most Android phones, I believe. The editions keep stats for you, which is kind of sweet.
