Cowardly brigands
Father Redmond casts hold person on the fleeing brigand, who is a statue in the room, caught in mid-stride. It is obvious from the sounds and hubub that others are in the room and exiting post haste.
Thurwin looks out the east arrow-slit and reports back that at least seven others have crawled out a ruined wall and across the moat on stepping stones, disappearing into the fen. They don't appear to be carrying anything and at least two are barefooted.
Other attacks are held up, as the fleeing dude is, um, held up.
The chamber is floored in black flagstones, and has ebon-colored wall hangings (now burnt and tattered) in addition to jumbled wreckage of furniture. There are bedrolls in odd corners, and the remains of a fire, still embers, can be noted in the northern fireplace. The southeastern corner of the wall has been demolished, probably when the moathouse was originally sieged, and it was the point of egress of the remaining bandits. Looking through the hole, you can just make out the last bandit disappearing into the thick, high reeds of the swamp. The sound of toads and other fenlife is loud through the breach, and there is a high probability that the naer-do-wells will become amphibian food in the near future.
The lone bandit is frozen in place by the hold person spell.
