Cowardly brigands

Father Redmond casts hold person on the fleeing brigand, who is a statue in the room, caught in mid-stride. It is obvious from the sounds and hubub that others are in the room and exiting post haste.

Thurwin looks out the east arrow-slit and reports back that at least seven others have crawled out a ruined wall and across the moat on stepping stones, disappearing into the fen. They don't appear to be carrying anything and at least two are barefooted.

Other attacks are held up, as the fleeing dude is, um, held up.

The chamber is floored in black flagstones, and has ebon-colored wall hangings (now burnt and tattered) in addition to jumbled wreckage of furniture. There are bedrolls in odd corners, and the remains of a fire, still embers, can be noted in the northern fireplace. The southeastern corner of the wall has been demolished, probably when the moathouse was originally sieged, and it was the point of egress of the remaining bandits. Looking through the hole, you can just make out the last bandit disappearing into the thick, high reeds of the swamp. The sound of toads and other fenlife is loud through the breach, and there is a high probability that the naer-do-wells will become amphibian food in the near future.

The lone bandit is frozen in place by the hold person spell.

Tavin - Monk

Excellent father, very quick reaction. Tavin will search the room more in depth to see if the bandits left anything of use behind.

Father Redmond - Cleric

Resting his staff on the frozen bandit Father Redmond says "Thank you Tavin. These old bones can still spring to action quickly when need be. If one of you younglings could tie this fellow while he is still held by the power of Zagyg."

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin quickly tells everyone what he sees "I think the rest of them have fled, they don't seem to be taking anything with them." He chuckles and says "We must have scared em' pretty good, eh?"

Thurwin will carefully enter the room and help search it top to bottom.

Caydon - Rogue
"Hmm...that was too easy." Caydon says softly as he shoots a nervous glance at Thurwin. He begins searching the room cautiously.

Calthas does not say anything to the old Father Redmond, smiling mildly instead. He goes on and tie the bandit, possibly using a rope found in his pack.

The bandit is bound tight, still under the effects of the hold person spell. His companions are long gone. He has used ring mail, a sheild, a flail, and a small moneybag containing [3d6] = 12 [3d4] = 6 [2d4] = 2 12 SP, 6 EP, and 2 GP.

A search brings up many things: there are some cooked eggs with mushrooms over the fire beginning to overcook, [3d6] = 17 seventeen silver pieces scattered, two pairs of old, soft boots, some other tattered belongings, some rope (10' heavy), pots and pans, nine bedrolls (in desperate need of a wash), scattered hose and jerkins (also in need of a wash), and a broken sword.

Tavin spots a secret door activated by a stone in the wall on the western wall. The passage beyond leads down into the dark.

Caydon finds a chest under the rubble of the wall where the wall collapsed. It will take three turns to dig out.

Tavin - Monk

There is a passage over here leading down.

Holding up the rope: I used my rope to tie up the previous brigands, if there is no issue I would like to take this.

Should we check the chest now or complete our explorations first? I would vote for exploration first, then return for the chest.

OCC: Sheet updated with 10' of heavy rope if no one has an issue.

Thurwin - Wizard

Thurwin will help tie up the brigand, and he'll take some of the dirty cloth in the room and make a blindfold for the man before we do any searching - no need in him seeing what we are up to.

Thurwin smiles at Caydon and says quietly "That went pretty well, huh? I think things are looking up for us."

OOC: I think we should take the time to check the chest now, just in case we go somewhere else and these guys come back and take it. We could just question this guy, tie him up and leave him till we decide to return to Homlett.
