I've always thought 'basic' LL spellcasters could do with more spells. Can you use LL Advanced spells and spell progressions with LL Basic? On a quick glance they seem identical. Aside from more spells, which is the whole point.

Yes, AEC is totally plug and play with 'vanilla' LL. You will need to consult with your DM, however.

According to the Advanced Edition Companion, page 4:

All of the rules contained in this supplement are optional. The Labyrinth Lord may add any or all of these options to the campaign, cherry picking at whim.

You can also hit Ebay for a cheap copy of 1st ed Unearthed Arcana and just blow the doors off your spell selection. That should be plenty of spells for all but the most spell-heavy of campaigns.

Does UA also have the core rules spells as well or is it all new spell content?

Unearthed Arcana (both editions, 1e and 3.5) are books of optional additional rules for their editions of D&D. In the 1e case it has rules for new classes (Cavalier, Barbarian, Thief-Acrobat), weapon specialization, new spells, new races (mostly subraces like drow, deep gnome, etc), new chargen systems, new gods, social status rules (meh), lots of magic items, and stuff like that.

No core rules, just add-ons.

I like introducing new spells into a campaign to make the players wonder sometimes. And don't forget, any magical feature can be attributed to an item as well as a spell and vice versa. In this way the amount of magic, both minor and major, for magic-users and as magic items, is easily multiplied and can be used for beneficial or detrimental purposes.

Get the original Uneathed Arcana- it has an old wizard looking at a magic book. Dont get mixed up with newer editions or Arcana Unearthed (words reversed). reddish tinged cover old wizard surrounded by alchemy equipment.
Great book!
